I was in college when the last "police reforms" started to be implemented. The Feds threw a lot of money at the issue LEAA & LEAP funds. That was in the early 1970s as a result of all the turmoil of the 60s i.e. civil rights movement, anti war, riots etc. They included actually having Criminal Justice programs with degrees for cops and sending cops to police academies for training. What a concept! In fact the college I was at started one of the first academies in the state outside of the state police academy using federal grant money.
I eventually went through it between my junior and senior years and worked with guys on departments who had no formal training, everything was OJT up to that point. Yeah, I was that "college kid" who was a "know it all".
So I'm skeptical as what "reforms" are intended. There is always going to be bad cops and cops sometimes make mistakes. How do you "reform" that? What are the expectations going to be for the next round of reforms?
IS there a police problem, and if so what reforms would be good?

What are the expectations going to be for the next round of reforms?
1. a politician advocating "reforms" expects to be elected;
2. an unthinking person expects that "one size fits all";
3. the active duty policeman expects that management will promulgate new rules and regulations to make it appear that the brass are doing something;
4. I expect that there will be morons administering, misunderstanding reforms, and fabricating statistics to prove that reforms have worked. I further expect no funding to be done to further purported reforms.
Gosh, I have to remember those responses for the next round of reforms.

A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

While his specific message, boiled down, is he is going after killers....fine.
But that is exactly the type of loud mouthed, over-testosterone, jack booted thug that I really do not need having a public forum to tell me his grocery list, let alone be a poster child spokesperson for law enforcement.
When some idiot like him comes and busts one our own heads heads because his corporate Neo-fascist overlords told him to, remember I said this.
And that is part of the problem, that you don't see a guy like that CREATING conflict as a problem. That could have been scripted and paid for by CNN or Fox just to stir up crap.
Re: IS there a police problem, and if so what reforms would be good?
And, final thought. I find that guy so effing offensive as someone in charge of a department or whatever it is.,..I'd love to post what I really think of him on that page.
But I won't - because I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO trust that there won't be an officer showing up to my house for some BS reason within 30-60 days.
So if you think that's the way...well, it didn't work for me.
I've been saying that about both sides.
Charged w/ Felony Murder w/in hours after arrest went south? You lost me there.
That guy - yep he lost me too.
I already believe that guy likely did something wrong to get the job done.

Here is problem #1 with him. You just gave the lawyer for punks/killers he is after EVERY excuse in the world to examine EVERY little damn thing that happened to give them an excuse. All he did - just focussing on this key point, I'm coming for bad bad people, was HELP the opposing counsel to get them off if he does anything less than perfect.
So, yeah - I get the "boot in your @$$" point. But he isn't a 12 year old on the play ground. I promise you - attorneys downloaded that video for just that purpose.
Big balls - small brain.

Walk softly and carry a big stick... pull it out when needed, no need to crow like a rooster
