New CCW

My son got his CCW in the mail yesterday. I taught him to shoot back when he was around 12 years old. Up till now he only has static range experience as well as drills I've taught him such as draw from concealment, malfunction drills etc. There is one more Outlaw match this year, next Wednesday on the 23rd. We've signed up for it and he's excited about going. It will give him a chance to meet other gun folks, see new pistols and shoot on three courses of fire with some movement, rapid fire, steel targets and various distances. It's a good, low key way to get his feet wet and augment what I've taught him already. Probably around 90ish rounds of fire give or take.

He'll probably shoot my G19.5FS or one of the 19X. Good platform for him to use. I'm thinking about running my HK USPc in 40 S&W.

We'll run some drills in the backyard before the match so he's familiar with things.

He carries the Sig P365 as his CCW.

Nothing better than competition to get you really comfortable with shooting and weapon manipulation.

He's pretty excited about it. And I'm looking forward to doing some shooting myself. Even though ammo is at a premium right now it's a good use of it. And I have enough to spare and them some. And really, it's only going to be probably 80-90 rounds. It will build his confidence and that's well worth it.

Before then we'll go in the backyard and work on various drills.

Got my son signed up with the USCCA. My wife and I have been members for a couple of years. Although I was covered under the Sheriff before I retired, I felt it was good back up to have it. And with my LEO credentials my wife got a discount on her membership. Additionally, it covered anyone in the home in the event of a HD situation.

We got back from the match just a few minutes ago. We had a wonderful time. My son really enjoyed the experience and I got the chance to see a couple of my old work buddies and we went out to dinner afterwards.

Very please with how well my son did. We shot 89 rounds on three course of fire. He got slightly more than 50% Alpha hits (46). I consider this very good for his first time shooting this type of match with a Glock 19 which he had limited experience with. In fact, I don't recall him shooting this particular G19. So we were both very pleased with how well he did and how much he enjoyed it. He even got 3/5 on the Texas star while it was moving! He liked the G19 quite a bit as well.

I enjoyed shooting the USPc40. Although it's hard to compare it to the courses of fire I shot last time since it was different, I got quite a bit more Alphas using the HK.

One of the courses of fire was particularly beneficial from a training perspective because it was all support hand only. I was very pleased with this course of fire as this is the hand I broke a couple of years ago. It still stiff from time to time so it was good to see that I can indeed still shoot with it well.

We've signed up for the match next Wednesday. My son will still be on vacation and it will give him another training opportunity. Hoping several of my buddies can also make it. I'll likely shoot the USPc40 again as I very much enjoyed it last week.

Looks like at least a couple of my buddies have signed up. That will make for a very good night for all of us. Nice way to end out the year

We got back from the match just a bit ago. Very pleased with my son's progress. Out of 82 rounds fired (not counting steel) he had 47 alphas so better than 50%. He cut his misses down by more than half from last week. His charlies were very close to COM usually so they weren't far from being alphas. I consider this really good because he used the Sig P365 tonight rather than the Glock 19. So that's an inch difference in barrel length and sight radius. He as very smooth on his reloads and was just more comfortable all the way around. And he had a really good time. He wanted to use the P365 since that's his CCW to become more comfortable with it and gain some practical experience with it.

As of last night I planned on using the Glock 19X. However, since he was going to use his carry pistol, and I've been wanting to run my P365 through a good course of fire, I decided to use my P365 as well. I'm happy that I did and was very pleased with how it shot. Out of the 82 scored shots I had 67 alphas, 15 charlies (that were very close to being alphas), no deltas and no mikes. All the steel we shot was one shot each and a drop so I was very pleased with that! In my division I came in 1st in stage one, 4th in stage two and 2nd in stage three. Really enjoyed that little pistol

So a very good night all the way around and a good time with my buddies as well. Nice dinner afterwards for the four of us.

Congrats. Doing well always makes a match more fun. Especially when you're running your baby gun. Sounds like you and junior made good choices.
