Big Cypress

Post by Bob »

So, went to the Keys for a few days. Drove down, and instead of taking I75 across to Miami and down, we took 41 9AKA the Tamiami Trail. For those who don't know it runs through the southern part of the Everglades.

Anyway...I was very impressed with the surprising amount of trails, stops, and camping opportunities down there. I'm thinking this is gonna be on my to do list. Might have to get a back country license to go out there.

Anyone been???

I've been to the Everglades when I was a kid. Breath takingly beautiful! And yeah, those gators get Godzilla big down there. There is a bunch of trails that go throughout Florida starting in the Everglades and ending in Pensacola. They are marked and maintained, IIRC, by volunteers. There are trail maps obtainable online. Some of the trails, particularly in the Glades and other dense locations are not for the faint of heart. While some trails, like around Okeechobee are the pleasant day hike variety, other marked trails in the Glades are often knee to waist deep in water!

That's what I call some serious trails.
