Vitamin D and the epidemic

Post by bdcochran »

1. there is a simple test for vitamin D deficiency.
2. if you are on medi-care, your doctor will probably willingly order one for you.
3. the amount of Vitamin D you get from the sun depends upon your location, your skin color, your elapsed time of exposure, the time of day of exposure and whether you live north of the 37th parallel.
4. there is a correlation between skin color and heightened complications and death from the Wuhan virus.
5. if you have a vitamin D deficiency, it can be corrected.
6. there is a correlation between vitamin D deficiency of complications and death from the Wuhan virus.
If you want, you can read through about 198 pages of postings on Glocktalk on the virus in one thread, largely devoid of political bittering.

I know the wife and I have been taking a vitamin D. I figured it can't hurt and we aren't taking a large dose that could lead to toxicity.

Yes, there is a link to the virus. The test is free to people on medi-care. Costs about $50 if a person has no insurance.

Historically, vitamin D came from the sun. Black people from the tropics have different processing from whiter skinned who had become more efficient.
Didn't matter when you were always running around in the sun.

Now, put you in an indoor urban environment. You don't get the vitamin D that you need. Harder on dark skinned people, of course.

Doesn't require an MD to figure that out.

I was diagnosed as deficient years ago so I switched the workout to outdoors.

This is why kids who play outside get sick when school starts and they are cramped up inside for the winter.

Remember, the concept of vitamins only dates back to about 1915!

MDs are not trained nutritionists by a long shot.

I take D3 from Swanson. Not daily, but quite often. 5000 IU is the dosage.

I actually had a doc notice I had D-deficiency for totally unrelated reasons. Went on 50k units of D and Calcium in January! How timely....

Anyway - staying on the Vitamin D (Which is actually a hormone, by the way).
Wow - isn't the media doing a fantastic job disseminating this info? 84% of the dead Covid in one study Vitamin D was way low.

ZInc and Quorcetin also a good idea. Something to get it in the cells. There are a couple of great Joe Rogan podcasts with doctors discussing this.

Bob is right on the vitamin D deficiency.

The test costs $50 if a person is uninsured. If you are on medi-care, it is included.

I was shocked when I received that diagnosis. so, I moved the exercise program outdoors with a hat and suntan lotion on the arms and backs of the hands.

Here is what is very sad. Our dark skinned fellow humans were designed to absorb less vitamin D from the sun or our lighter skinned fellows were designed to absorb more vitamin D from the sun - however you want to say it.

Take a dark skinned Somali living in Scandanavia or a dark skinned American living and working indoors in Chicago during the winter time - with the virus coming along. Yes, the limited studies say that they are deficient in vitamin D and have a disturbing proportion of deaths (purportedly from the virus).

People are raging about not having a virus test. Well, I had a free test on Monday because I donate blood and the hospital is now probably going to using plasma on the incoming virus patients. Today is Wednesday. Did I contract the virus yesterday? Heck, I don't know. but if you insist on spending money, let the government test people for vitamin D deficiency and get them on vitamin D tablets, if needed.

I live in what is called the epic-center of the epidemic. I believe that I can explain the "why", without political nonsense.

In late November 2020, my area was losing over a minute of daylight every day. The clock was changed. The daily temperatures dropped. Immediately, if you exclude the dog walkers, individuals and families stopped biking and stopped walking.

The face mask wearing was always 100% in public. The social distancing and shut down measures were in place.

You don't blame a few rioters. You don't blame all the families who did not have family gatherings.

It is the lack of vitamin D. If you are diagnosed as being vitamin D deficient, it takes weeks and months to increase the amount of stored vitamin D using the 3 cent a day pills. This is better than magnesium and potassium which the body does not store. If you have leg cramps at night, your doctor will tell you to take magnesium and potassium tablets, but you won't be able to store the minerals in your system.

I am exposed to the virus now. My reaction is simple. All of my exercises have been done for years outdoors in minimal clothing, a hat, and being slavered with sun block. I now deliberately have added another 44 minutes a day walking in addition to the measured walking I have done in my exercise program. I accept that I will be infected and expect not too much difficulty because I am not on any prescription medication.

In another forum, I have written about long lines outside of doc-in-a-box facilities. These are the medical practices where you walk in and pay a fee in urban areas. Those people standing in line are the ones who violate federal law by not having a medical insurance program. They were healthy and decided to spend their funds elsewhere. They don't have a clue that being tested for the virus is useless (they are not flying) and that the doctors can do nothing for them by way of medicine.
