Covid 19-random thoughts

My wife went to Aldi's today shopping. She said that all but two people in the store were wearing masks. Contrast that with last week when no one was wearing them.

She is trying to limit trips to the store to once a week.

I went out in public for the first time in over 2 weeks. I had to go to sportsmans warehouse to pick up my other Keltec P17 I ordered 2 weeks ago. Store was pretty much empty except for the gun counter. It was packed. People are stil buying just about any handgun and ammo they can get there hands on. Took about an hour and a half to go through the process this time. Took 20 mins a month ago when I bought the first p17.

And yes I was wearing a n95 mask for the first time. Masks are hot and uncomfortable to wear. About half the people there were wearing masks.

My son is a trauma P.A. and his wife is a nurse at the largest hospital/health care system in western Michigan. Since the sheltering order trauma cases have fallen so he doesnt have much to do. he is mostly on call.

His wife usually works on the neural floor but due to staffing has been assigned to fill in on the virus ward. They have 6 cases. She said it is pretty intense and stressful which is why they are rotating nurses through from other areas. She did say they are well equipped with PPEs Never the less, say a prayer for all health care workers and first responders who are on the front lines of this thing.

Both my parents and my wife's parents are on lock down where they live. They are all in their 90s. Haven't seen them in three weeks. We just got word the virus has shown up at my in-laws facility this week. Hoping it will be contained there. No cases yet at my parent's facility.

The rest of the family has been doing "virtual happy hours" once a week where we get together for a video conference. Gives everyone a chance to check in. I have 3 brothers and a sister and a bunch of nieces and nephews. some of which have kids. It's been kinda a fun thing to do.

Oh, and the internet and cable crashed about 4 hours ago in the whole area so I'm doing this on my phone.

I just don't get the gun thing. I guess it is just people deathly afraid their precious supply chain will halt. And then I suppose they will be coming to get shot by me.

I don't get the gun thing either. Why would you wait until a pandemic to buy a handgun? Why would you buy a handgun anyway because of a pandemic? I felt like slapping some of them. But then again, there I was standing in line picking up a handgun right next to them.

Or Mac66, you can have a relative call up because he wants to borrow a gun for his business partner, then it becomes for himself. Told him to go out and buy a bolt action .308 rifle (he had ammo,but no gun), a mount and rings. I would then give him a scope. Of course, that would be too much effort. He never went to buy a rifle. Oh well.

A few that have talked with me are concerned by the few reports they have read about how police will respond or not respond to calls. They are concerned that they will have a need for police and no one will show.

I pointed out, regardless of the virus outbreak, that this could happen anytime.

The old saying, when seconds count, police are only minutes away.

Bmyers, good point. However since the police don't really need to run traffic and with everybody staying home they don't seem to be very busy. One would think they'd be available to respond to most emergency calls.

Just about everyone in my family owns guns except for my liberal sister and her weenie husband. Interestingly some of my nieces who are nearing 30 and have asked me recently to train them for their concealed carry permits. When I ask "why now?" they say "had the intention before but life gets in the way. The virus means that anything can happen and you need to be prepared." So I suppose this thing is a wake up call for many people.

Unfortunately I don't feel comfortable doing the training now and the police aren't processing applications anyway during the pandemic so they will have to wait. Some on my nieces come from fairly liberal families so it's interesting

Supply schedules vary store to store, people buy odd things.
