Age old question...Pistol or PCC???

Post by Bob »

So, as the gunstores are filling up and 9mm is returning to sensible-ish, I raise this question:

Do I need another 9mm Pistol, or a PCC? If PCC, which one? Talk to me people, but first my current 9mm armory:

I have 5 9mm Pistols
- 3 full size/two steel
- 1 Glock 23 conversion
- 1 compact for carry (Walther PPS)

I have one PCC:
- Lever action .357 (and patching 6 shooter...)

I have thought about how much I like the concealable size, and thought another or different might be a good idea...
- A Ruger EDC9 for cheap.

But...There is a lot to be said for a PCC in 9 given my pistol foundaitons.

If a PCC - what one?
- Storm to go with my 92?
- Something that takes Glock Mags?
- An AR platform pistol? (10" barrel or so?)
- Keltech sub2k? Just because?
- Not a fan of the 995 (because limited capacity)...but the price is right and they work.

Thoughts? Philosphies? General suggestions?

Well, my question would be two-fold;
  • Do you need another 9mm pistol for something specific that your other pistols won't fill?
  • What is the purpose for which you'd want a PCC? What would it's role be?
If you're looking for another carry 9mm the EC9s would be a good choice. I don't know what the prices are going for right now, but generally they are a sub $300 pistol and they work. Haven't a secondary CCW choice is never a bad idea.

If you're looking for something to put in a vehicle, pack or augment your HD then the PCC is a good option. I have the two Sub 2K's and I'm satisfied with them. They both take Glock mags. Bmyer seems to have a good plan with his AR platforms that take Glock mags.

In regards to the 995TS, they do work. And they have been used in real life successfully in HD. And they are actually very comfortable to shoot because they're like 7lbs. And accurate. Is it a 'go-to-war' battle rifle? No. Is it something you can toss in the trunk or have in the closet that will work? Yes. Standard mag is 10-rounds plus one in the pipe. And you can put two more 10-round mags on the stock, they sell the holder and it works great. Is 11 rounds of 9mm enough for most of the situations you'd find yourself in? With another 20 rounds on the rifle itself.

If it's what I had it's what I would use. For the usual price it's not a bad option and they are a LOT funner to shoot than the Sub 2K.

Saw a Promag vid for the 995 in 45 that was impressive.

The PCC would be for HD, travel, bug out, and the girl to shoot if necessary vs 12g, AK, etc...

The Ruger would be another carry, bug out, or for the girl to shoot (better than the Walther and its HK mag release...)

About the only review I can remember seeing that was negative on the Hi-Point was from Tim at the MAC. But then he seems to attract bad weapons like flies to honey. Everyone else generally thinks they are HP's best product. Honestly, I've enjoyed the two I've had in 9mm (still have one of them) and the one in 40S&W. I'd not turn one down in 45acp either.

Some considerations, for travel/bug out the Sub 2K is hard to beat since it folds up. However, you need to put a sleeve over the bolt tube to keep your cheek from getting beat up. The Ruger or the Hi-Point for your girl would be the best choices in terms of recoil and ease of shooting. Since they are larger and heavier the recoil is pretty much snuffed out. The Ruger is what Shane has and he seems to like it quite well. Shoot him a text to get more information on it if you like.

I mean...I get the 995. It is cheap, it works, 11 rnds is way better than 0, and the ability to aim, extra juice from the barrel, etc is great.

I just think an AR Pistol for more money could be so much more.

It sort of has none of the advantages of an AR or the Keltec, except 1/2 the price.

My buddy has one. For the price I just can't see it. It just seems like a plastic toy to me.

Don't get me wrong...I'd prefer a good old fashioned UZI. Or an MP5....classics for a reason.

But that EVO 3 was light and fast!

The Storm goes awesome with the M9 or 92fs adding a few 33 round mags are like the butter on the biscuit...
