Olympics

Post by Bmyers »

I haven't followed the Olympics, yet recently been seeing all these news reports because of some athlete that stepped out of the games because of her mental health and they are calling her a hero?

I thought the hero was the athlete that had the injury and continue to fight through to finish the competition that they had trained for.

It looks like to me she had a bad performance, realized she wasn't going to get the gold, so I'm taking my toys and I'm leaving.

As teenager we would play basketball games in the park and there was one kid that was super competitive. If the team he was on wasn't doing well, he would get mad, start ranting, and then leave. Got to the point we wouldn't let him play basketball with us anymore.

Just seems awful strange to me that she decided to quit and leave.

Are you really the GOAT if you quit at the first sign of a little adversity?

Did she at least get her participation trophy?
A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

To be fair, she didn't step out of competition after realizing she couldn't get gold. The team would very likely have won if she had participated. She is also still competing in the individual events so could very well be highly decorated at this Olympics.
I'm not a big fan of her letting her team down, but I couldn't begin to imagine the pressure she has had on her shoulders since a very young age.

Looks like she backed out of the individual events now, too. Imagine being involved in something where you only really get to perform every 4 years and bailing out during that event.

I have to admit I don't know who she is and haven't watched 1 second of the Olympics this time around.

It use to be Olympics were a huge deal. Now days, the drama around the games gets more coverage than the actual games.

"not going to watch anything where politics tries to take over"

A big plus ONE. A key reason why I am NOT watching any of the events.
