I use the internet extensively to look up exercises, medications, symptoms and treatments. No, I am not a hypochondriac! Of course the information has to be verified.
I was corrected in my thinking this week by researching on the internet and will see an eye doctor this am. Mistakenly, I thought that nothing could be done about floaters on the eyes. It turns out that the floaters are not on the surface, they are in the eye, everyone might get them and that there is surgery options if needed. So, I will pay the $15 co-payment, take a test and get the specific eye exam.
Eye care, floaters, and the internet
Re: Eye care, floaters, and the internet
I had lasic surgery about 20 years ago to correct nearsightedness. It changed me from being nearsighted to being far sighted i.e, still near reading glasses. Haven't seen a eye doc since. Your post reminds me that it's about time for a checkup.
Re: Eye care, floaters, and the internet
okay...just back from the eye doctor. It's actually been 22 years since I had lasic surgery and my last checkup. Eyes are in good shape except for a small cataract in each eye which most of us get after age 65. Will have them removed in a few years when they get worse. Otherwise my eyes are in good shape. And I still don't need glasses (except reading glasses).
Re: Eye care, floaters, and the internet
45 is the magic age for eyes... they get harder and the muscles can't focus as well as they use to.
Def need to see a doc at least every 2 yrs for eyes. they are important !
reading glasses - yes
other than that still better than 20-20 here

You can't fix stupid !
Re: Eye care, floaters, and the internet
I do an annual eye exam. I have needed glasses since grade school, so going to the eye doctor was like going to the dentist, something I do every year rather I want to or not.
Re: Eye care, floaters, and the internet
Yeah....it was stupid to go so long without an eye exam. After I had lasic surgery (22 years ago) which essentially turned me from being extremely near sighted to being far sighted I haven't had any problems and my eyes haven't changed until recently when I started getting eye strain watching TV.
I had just started using bifocals (wore glasses since I was in the 5th grade) when I had the surgery. Needed stronger reading glasses afterwards. But lasic was a miracle. I can still see at distance without any help. I can drive without glasses. Lasic was the best thing I ever did, right up there with having my knee replaced.
