I regularly donate blood, usually double red cell donation, O+. CMV- which means for premature babies. Every 4 months for many years.
It constitutes a mini health check up for me - temperature, blood pressure and iron in the blood. Recently, using Kaiser equipment (the company keeps changing its equipment), my blood pressure was higher than it had ever been. Yesterday, it was 110/68 at Cedars Sinai Hospital when I donated.
If you can donate, it is also painless. Over 60 pints so far. I lost count years ago.

Re: blood donation
I used to donate all the time until I had my heart valve replaced. Now, I'm not allowed to.
