This is in part a follow up to the blockchain, #2. To even handle the idea of Cryptocurrency, you need to understand the Blockchain first. The Blockchain is very important for a lot of reasons, but a big one is the operation of cryptocurrency.
This was inspired by the recent Tucker Carlson story about Bank of America turning over financial records to the FBI etc following the incident at the Capital. Now - I do not know if this is true or not. The story is pretty fresh. Tucker Carlson in my eyes is about as valid as the hosts on CNN. He is paid to incite rage/anger/emotion in a specific segment of the market to get views and viewers for advertising dollars. We'll see how that pans out.
But I have long made fun of the names of these banks: Bank of Ruin America, Citi Skank, Wells Fargo - now robbing the stagecoach. This would not surprise me that this was true at all. These banks exist for one purpose: Return maximum dollars to the shareholders (that ain't you, or even anyone you know, or even anyone running the Government). They do that by one means - getting you in debt as much as they possibly can while having you pay the interest.
Most people have very little idea how money really works; Debt, deflationary economies, the sustaining of interest payments, etc...People say it isn't true and disbelieve it as if it isn't true because the real way money is created and operates is so simple, and so wrong, they simply cannot accept it.
You need to learn what crypto currency is, and become able to use it. You need to be able to identify good ones from bad ones, and learn how to acquire it, and move it around. Gold and Silver are nice, but when it REALLY becomes time to move, it will be all but useless. You can be stopped at a border, at an airport, at port or anywhere and gold can be found and confiscated. Besides that - it is all but un-spendable in it's raw form, and challenging to convert with being tracked or identified. The US has already put capital restrictions on moving it. Don't believe me? Get $10k of Gold and try to take it to England.
Being able to use crypto is the only way you are going to be able to acquire wealth that is untraceable and portable. Remember - Banks and the US Gov will be making Blockchains too. And once your pension is in that - they will have total control of turning your access on and off. Bitcoin (and others) not so much or not at all. Soon, every financial transaction you make will be identifiable and traceable by the government. It already is to a great degree. The Tucker Carlson vid states the search parameters. If you think the Government can't figure out who most likley has a 30 rd magazine - without actually looking at the actual receipt - you are fooling yourself.
Digital currency is going to be a financial survival skill in the coming decade. I have been involved with it for a few years now. It has been around for over a decade. It is a real thing, and it isn't going away. But it will be turned against you if you don't understand and control it.

And by the way - this is NOT instead of Gold/Silver...but in addition to it.
Re: Survival & Freedom #3: Cryptocurrency
If you don't understand what ELon Musk just did, and why he did it, write today's date down somewhere. The financial future just left you behind.
Re: Survival & Freedom #3: Cryptocurrency
My question is what good is it if there is a real SHTF like emp ?
Is it going to be gone ?
Is it going to be gone ?
You can't fix stupid !
Re: Survival & Freedom #3: Cryptocurrency
What good is your bank account or your paper dollars going to be? Seriously...I'd like an answer to that. You are claiming, or implying that your "regular" money and such will be fine. Please explain that to me first.
That is an "ignorance as denial" sort of response. It's the same as saying I use Kevlar vests instead of force fields - because a force field won't protect you if a nuclear bomb goes off next to you. Neither will your Kevlar - but actually, the force field will. Just because you don't understand it does not mean it does not work.
Your car won't work in that situation either unless you have a garage sized Faraday box. You have one of those, don't you.
Last counter - Is all you do preparedness/life-wise for EMPs? I hope not,be cause most of the things we prep for either haven't ever happened, or won't happen to us.
And no - it won't be gone. Watch the block chain articles/vids. But unlike your back account - you CAN actually store your crypto in a safe location, so there is that.

Not expecting my monies to be there if something really happens... that why I do have a sack or two of trash silver.
Not expecting and EMP either... just was wondering how you can access the crypto if major things happens.
go easy on the simple folk

Re: Survival & Freedom #3: Cryptocurrency
First of all, my crypto isn't "anywhere" it is "everywhere" there is internet - so destroy the entire web or it lives
- I can get it anywhere I can get access
I can also keep it all on a thumb drive
- As long as that is safe, I can get it
And yes - some .10 silver is never a bad thing to have on hand...as are spare bullets and booze!

If crypto-currency works for you fine.
I was doing my tax return on turbo-tax and it asked about crypto-currency transactions. Fast forward a few years. The IRS serves the appropriate requests for your tax records that have asked about crypto-currency transactions, signature authority on foreign bank accounts. Simultaneously, banks in Europe are pressured to submit to the IRS the names, addresses of all American nationals having signatory authority over accounts (this has already been done for years), your goose is cooked.
or
take the advice and live rural below the radar and the government can't touch you. Tell that to the rural Ukrainians who were deliberately starved by Stalin before paved roads, wide spread telephones, when most people did not own cars, the concept of personal computers was decades off.
or
take the conventional wisdom to store gold/diamonds and still the SS will get that from you.
My mother used to say that was ever put in your head could not be taken away. Doesn't always work that way - I've had the brain surgery. However, the facts that you have situational awareness and you try to plan (like buying cryto currencies) means that you are focused on survival.

Re: Survival & Freedom #3: Cryptocurrency
I suppose investing in crypto currencies has some merit but I'm old and the stock market has been around a long time and I've done very very good. I've been prepping since Jimmy Carter was elected and not much has changed. The world didn't end and the economy hasn't crashed. .gov knows everything about us so hiding your finances is futile.
I figure I got 25 years left if I'm lucky. Not going to hide in fear about what might happen but never has. Prefer to prep for whats most likely to happen, bad weather, etc. And invest in something that has a track record.
I'll stick with what works for now and hope for the best.
