So I decided to make a few changes to my Remington 7600 in 30-06
Original version:
Remington 7600P
Carbine (18" barrel)
Pump Action / 4+1
30-06 - typically a 150g round
Scope: Vortex 3-12x44 scope - because old eyes are getting old. Better too much scope than not enough.
New plan:
Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x - red dot for pigs up close/fast, and Florida doesn't have 300+ yard shots. 8x will be fine....
Triple K 10rd magazine
Hornady Custom Lite 125g reduced recoil 30-06 ammo
I have the mag, it cycled great! I can get the ammo. Now for the scope swap!
I can use 180g SP's for big animals, or the 125g for pigs and such....or as a tactical backup.
Pics when complete.
Remington 7600 SOCOM
Re: Remington 7600 SOCOM
Sounds like a good plan. Should be a nice setup once completed.
That's the same scope I plan on putting on a 77/357. In Ohio, you're much more likely to get a close shot than a far one. 8x gives plenty of magnification for what a 357 can reach.

Re: Remington 7600 SOCOM
The 30-06 can do a might better than the 8x. But...I'm not getting rid of the 3-12x.
Still, at 18" it is not the ultimate "reach out and touch something" rifle. I'm sure 8x will be more than enough to put a hurt on an animal at 3-400 yards easily.

Re: Remington 7600 SOCOM
Small carbine in 30-06 can be a great gun.... wouldn't give up my 742 that uses 10 round mags
