anybody heard of this? Apparently the FCC opened up the 800 mhz band to provide nationwide public safety frequencies. They also opened it up for public use.
This means that instead of radio being limited to local repeaters it can now go through cell towers to satilites back to cell then to your radio. That means you can now have nationwide radio communications. And it's free!
If this is true it makes all other forms of radio comms obsolete. Not much info out there yet but I'll keep looking. If someone knows anything let us know.
Edited to add...
I'm at my cabin for a few days and can only look on my phone. Not seeing anything on it with the FCC or online radio forums. So nevermind I guess until something else come s out. I saw an ad for the radios which got me looking
CDMA 800MhZ RADIO
Re: CDMA 800MhZ RADIO
haven't heard yet...and run amateur extra license here.
But I can't see it being free ( nothing is these days ) as there would be some sort of load on the equipment
BTW, still have a cw course ( from ww2 ) in mp4 if anyone wants it
( audio from old records used back then for services )
And some other cw courses on file
Edit ...did see some new cdma wt on 800 from china... here ( but not much from FCC )

Re: CDMA 800MhZ RADIO
The ads I saw were for Baofengs but looking closely at the ads it says they are dual VHF/UHF in the 144-430 mhz range. If you look at the number on the radio in the photo it is a BF E90 which is small 400-470 mhz UHF radio. This is obviously a scam.tom mac wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 10:03 am haven't heard yet...and run amateur extra license here.
