I have a number of Sipik sk98 flashlights and also the Ultrafire equivalent.
Going back in time, if a person wanted an under $5 flashlight using one AA battery and having only mode, the best had been the Sipik sk68. Now, it is harder to find in one mode. Generally, it is available in three. Would chose one mode because having more than one mode might mean a learning curve on using the flashlight for the first time in an emergency.
Later I wanted a unit in the 18650 battery configuration, so I chose the Sipik sk98. Was about $7 a unit and still under $10 if you look hard.
My walk is 22 minutes in the dark. So two charged units sit at the front door, one for the girlfriend if she goes on the walk, and one for me.

Re: Sipik sk98
The SK68 and SK98 are hard to beat and probably the best bang-for-your-buck out there, and have been for years. I've picked up SK68's for as little as a buck. On an AA battery you can expect about 80 lumens and with a 14500 around 300 lumens. The quality can be a bit of a lottery, but for the price it's still a good stocking stuffer or go-to throw away light.
A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

Re: Sipik sk98
Every family car and office should have a flashlight with fresh batteries. A Sipik sk68 with a 4 pack of AA batteries in a zip lock baggie which costs under $10 makes an excellent gift. It also makes the recipient remember you longer after he or she receives it.
Last year, I flew across country to visit my son. It would have cost me $30 to have a non-carry on bag. I took a Sipik sk68 pack in carry-on and left it with him. This next time, I will take two and leave them.
