Glock P80

Post by David »

Okay, educate me on this new Glock P80. As I understand it, it's a Gen 1 on the outside. What about internals? Is this made through Glock? Any issues, concerns or neat things with it?

As far as I know it's just a retro throwback. The internals have all the upgrades from the last 40 years, but things like the extractor are modified to look like an original. It comes with the original grip texture, tupperware style box, and collectible outer box. Since the Gen 5s went back to a single pin frame, it was probably an easy aesthetic change to make these.
There's not a thing about it that interests me. If you want a collector 17, you'd be better off looking for a pencil barrel original. If you want a shooter, the later versions were better.
I'm sure the Glock fanboys will eat them up.

So it's basically a Gen 5 internally?

That's my guess. I haven't seen any confirmation one way or the other yet.

I'm not chomping at the bit to get one, but I've seen them mentioned but didn't really know anything about them. It did make me a little nostalgic for my very first Glock which was a used Gen 2 G17. I really should have hung on to that one. I became an instructor using that pistol. Use to carry it off-duty in a leather holster. Had some holster wear but it just gave it character.
