Air Marshal Qualification

Post by Ronin.45 »

My group hasn't been able to shoot in a few months due to losing our indoor, winter venue.
I thought we'd take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to play a little.
If you have done any LE quals, you probably know that they are not known for being hard. Most departments and even the FBI have ridiculously easy standards. The only one considered difficult is the Air Marshal Qualification. It's all at close range, but it has some challenging time constraints. Even if your overall time is below the threshold and your accuracy is perfect, a single run over the allowed time is an immediate failure. Fumble a reload or draw and you're done.
The hardest portion by far is the 3 target 180° string. Drawing from concealment and hitting 3 targets in 3 different directions in under 3.5 seconds doesn't sound terrible, but doing it twice in a row on demand is a bit tough.
We had 10 attempts with only 3 passes among us. You can see, I barely made time in the 180° string. My fat ass doesn't have the torque to pivot very fast.

Thanks for that. Always up for a challenge. In that only hits count I will try it on my metallic silhouettes. Not sure of the dimension of the target shown but they are close enough.

I worked with a buddy that eventually went to the Secret Service under Busch Jr. He also commented on the AM quals and reloading times as being extremely demanding. You did great :)
A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

Fate whispers to the warrior "You cannot weather this storm". The warrior replies, "I am the storm".

It's almost identical to the -1 zone on an IDPA target. A 2/3 steel silhouette would be close.
