Keep a sense of humor.
1. I live right at the edge of a tsunami area. Approximately 170 years ago, when no one was living in the area (or lived to tell), there was a massive tsunami.
2. On the marsh where it overran (formerly the Howard Hughes airfield), thousands of apartment units were constructed. The streets do not allow parking and are only wide enough for a firetruck. Parking is underground. To compensate for the risk, the city or county put some signs. The $50,000 alarm system has not been constructed since first proposed some 20 years ago.
3. I obtained the geologic maps for my area. I am on a hillside at the edge of the tsunami plain. I would guess very tiny risk. If it comes and I have a 2 minute warning (which not available through the government), I could be up another couple hundred feet.
4. I was on Phukett years before the tsunami that it had. My comment then was that everything was going wiped out, even the poorly constructed and poorly inspected high rise tourist hotels. I was right.

If a tsunami ever makes it to Southern IL, I know the rest of you are way underwater.

As with all things....we simultaneously avoid obvious dangers, and then refuse to be held accountable.

Just like people in Florida who live on the beach.

Earthquake preps are a very challenging topic though...
