The times are not what they were. The internet, social media and the news have isolated people and divided them. People view the world as if everyone is going to insult or harm them. Add to that all the guns purchased by inexperienced people and it is a formula for instant violence.
Stupid ideas like firing a warning shot or not understanding the penetration of a bullet through a car add to insanity.

Situational awareness is more important then ever.

Well first off...it's NBC so it's going to be slanted and skewed. They are going to attempt to tie a supposed rise in gun violence to the surge of weapons purchased since the new regime supposedly took power. Take away Chicago, BLM and Antifa related violence and it's pretty safe out there. Yes, you have your false flag events staged by the deep state to change the narrative. And yes, you have your occasional nut job that wakes up hating the world. So I'm not making light of that. But the media is always slanted far-left and trying to demonize firearms, firearm owners and the 2A so I am automatically suspect of any 'reporting' they may try to vomit up.

But yes, it always pays to be careful and practice situational awareness in this day and age. That often means staying off the cell phone which I'm guilty of doing i.e. scanning the local gun BST sites looking for deals when I should be watching my surrounding. Something I'll work on a lot better from now on!

2. subscribe to a reputable newspaper like the Wall Street Journal and skip reading websites that get you upset.

When I was married, I did not have a television. After a couple of years, my in-laws gave us a television. Those first couple of years were fantastic.

At one point, after my wife died, the television was unplugged for over a year. The television set in the house is one donated by a girlfriend. I don't watch it. I use the internet and youtube to learn how to fix things and study. Now, having been introduced to modern television by a younger brother, I will buy a television with Roku and watch educational programs thereon, not the "news".

Turn off the Television is SO true. You have very little real perception of what is going on based on that.

As my podcast guy once said - If a tornado went through the middle of Dallas, and only hit one barn on the outskirts of the suburbs, every helicopter would be cicling it and leading with "The Devastation is incredible! Chickens are everywhere!"

The major news is about conflict, fear and controversy. I have been living in FL the whole Covid time. What was said on the News had generally very little to do with my reality everyday.

I know wife and I are happier since we have stopped watching the national news. Yes, I still cruise the headlines to make sure there is nothing relevant, but I read a couple of the local new websites to stay up-to-date on stuff going on in our area. Yet, watching the news, I couldn't tell you the last time we sit in front of the TV and watched the news.

Most of tv news is BS anyway... get a good book
