Man pulls concealed carry weapon in gun-free mall to defend family and bystanders during shooting

From the article: Law enforcement officers also did not charge him for having a gun in a weapons-free zone, and he added that those zones put people at risk.

It appears that Nebraska differs from Florida. In Florida, gun free zone only have teeth by statute such as a jail, prison, courthouse etc. Stores and restaurants may have a sign but it's only policy and not a law.

Gun Free Zone = Likely Mass Shooting Zone.

AKA - I'm Unarmed Zone

Also a "Shoot Me Now" zone

Or also a "Wait - I'm calling 911, you can't shoot me until the police show up" zone

And yet some people live under the illusion they are safe in these areas. How many mass shootings occurred in 'gun free zones'? Almost all of them.

A study from the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) shows 89 percent of mass shootings between 1998 and June 2019 occurred in gun-free zones.

That guy really put himself and others at risk, should have just kept it concealed and wait it out.

Hard to say because it's difficult to judge from the article. What could have been done? What should have been done?

At any rate, my safety is more important than a sign that caters to irrational fear and a lack of critical thinking skills.

Care to expand on your knowledge on the situation and why it prompted you to comment?

I would have pulled mine in setting given to be ready , but sheltered. ( yes I carry in mall, worse thing is they can ban you re trespassing later )
I would have stayed in place at the bathroom door protecting my family over leaving and going into mall ... any others ( read LEO ) may have thought he was the shooter.
Better, IMO, to be not so open in mall.

If the guy would have kept his gun concealed and waited it out/protected his family without revealing he was carrying, nobody would have ever known and we wouldn't be reading/hearing about it. No need to expose it until needed. Concealed carry means concealed, don't ask, don't tell. It's nobody's business but your own.
