Your trips into the wilds

Where have you gone into the wilds? Forests, deserts, jungles etc.

I was born in Arizona and have camped and hiked in the Grand Canyon. That was 50 years ago and I was a small child so I only have short memories of it, but I remembered having a lot of fun.

Here in Florida I've been in many swamps including the Everglades. Swamps can be beautiful with a diversity of flora and fauna. Cypress trees, some of which are locally called lighter knockers, can be stunning.

These types of scenes are all over a good portion of Florida. We are having a home built in the county north of where we live now. The home is going to be on the water which we are very much looking forward to. A beautiful pond surrounded by conservation land. I'll take pictures of it as it becomes more developed. They are man-made in this area and are connected to other man-made ponds of various sizes. Then they get stocked and attract all sorts of wildlife. Being out on the property (it's cleared but undeveloped at this point) there is already all kinds of large water birds. The whole area is surrounded by undeveloped conservation land so I have no doubt about seeing deer, gators and a host of wildlife. The area has 20 miles of walking trails as well that I'll be exploring.

Bob, Gene, Joe and Jeff will be familiar with the area I'm talking about. East of the Suncoast Expressway and right in the area of J.B. Starkey and Serenova Tract.

Additionally to the above adventures in swamp areas, the woods and desert are two places I've spent time in extensively. The desert from both Arizona where I was born and overseas when I was stationed in the country of Turkey. We were surrounded by mountains but our area was more scrub and desert. I feel very comfortable in the desert,be it sand or rocky in nature.

The woods obviously since we're surrounded by it on all sides. Hard to choice between the desert and the woods. Woods has more diversity but they are both beautiful to me.

Many places many years ago. Not any more. When I was younger I was asked what I would to do. I responded that I wanted to go back to Afghanistan and play Buzkashi. I was promptly denounced as being irresponsible. https://youtu.be/ta3izb3CPuc
