Summer preps

Don't know about you folks in the north, but summer is here in Florida. Right now we are in a Heat Advisory for the Tampa Bay area. It's 95 degrees with a heat index of 112 degrees. I just got back from an errand and it's pretty much like an oven if you're in direct sunlight.

So for my neck of the woods, it's pretty standard to have a drink in your hand wherever you go to stay hydrated. In my sling bag I carry a Sawyer Mini-Filter as well as a mylar space blanket. Both are light and take up very little room but could be essential if needed.

And next up...Hurricane season, soon to be followed by political season. I call 2020 a complete do-over.

It's been in the 80s here in Michigan. Always carry a water bottle, plus a couple extra in the vehicles plus my full canteen cook set in my truck. Lately I've been carrying a five gallon water jug in the back of my truck because I've been going back and forth to the cabin a lot.

That reminds me, my wife bought a couple Life Straw Go-water bottles last winter for like half off. I'm going to dig those out and put one in each vehicle.

I feel that Lifestraws/Sawyer Mini Filters etc are really an essential prep for (at least) a GHB in the vehicle. You just never know when it may come in handy.

We have Life Straw bottles and the mini-Sawyer just depending on which bag you look in.

Yet, if we are heading out anywhere besides local, we usually toss a cooler in with water, Gatorade, and a few sodas. Doesn't take much effort and it has proven more than once to be very nice to have the cooler with some drinks and of course a few little snacks.

The other item that gets added to the vehicle is bug repellant. We use Sawyer Products 20% Picaridin Insect Repellent.

That is always a great idea. My wife usually brings a little cooler style bag with protein bars and trail mix. It has come in handy on a LOT of occasions. I like to have a few packets of Emergen-C in my bag as well. Gotta replace the electrolytes!
