Super safety

I may have mentioned the "super safety" before. It is a replacement safety for AR type rifles that simulates full auto, kind of like a bump stock.

Is it legal?
Well...the ATF raided the company back in May presumably to intimidate the owners but no arrests were made.

In a big FU to the ATF the company released the 3D plans so anyone can now print one.

I bring this up because one of my woods house neighbors was shooting something that sounded like full auto.

I stopped by to see and he produced an AR with a super safety. He said I could shoot it if I had some ammo. I did and did.

First...its pretty much simulated full auto

Second...it was alot of fun

Third...while I shot mostly short bursts I did a few mag dumps.

Fourth...it is expensive to do mag dumps

Fifth...Its been awhile since I shot anything in full auto or simulated full auto. I was surprised at the muzzle rise during a mag dump.

Sixth...its hard to imagine a scenario where simulated full auto would be practical. You would need a massive amount of ammo. Okay, maybe using short bursts but you'll still burn up a lot of ammo quickly.

Seventh...I don't think the ATF is going to "allow" it. If it's not illegal yet it soon will be. On the other hand the bump stock ban was overturned so maybe the ATF is on hold right now.

Eighth...I really need to get a 3D printer.

I think more and more, the ATF is going to be reigned in as far as their authority. Being a non-elected body they are suppose to enforce laws, not create them. Well see what happens next year.

I just learned ATF has determined the SS is a machune gun even though it doesnt meet their own designation. However...the recent bump stock ruling and the overturning of the Chevron deverence puts the legality of their ruling into question.

And i think you're right Dave.

Apparently the court just ruled against ATF labeling reset triggers as machine guns. So as of now, its legal.

I still don't want one. Full auto(or simulated full auto) is pretty much useless. In the time an average shooter can spray a sloppy burst at a target, good shooters have already double tapped 2 or 3 with center hits.
With ammo getting more expensive, I'll limit my waste.

There was news report (actually all the stations) in Detroit that emphasized the dangers of "Glock switches" which makes Glocks full auto. They said law enforcement is worried since these things have been showing up increasingly.

They then cited the 2 cases which caused the "epidemic". One was a felon out on parole who was buying and selling these things. He's now back in prison. The other was 19 year old gang banger who was showing off his switch on twitter. The feds busted him.

They then showed an "agent" shooting a Glock equipped with a switch. Zzzzzzzip. In the time it takes to say the word the extended mag was empty. Quite a lot of muzzle lift as well. They didn't show the target.

Of course what's the media supposed to say "Glock switches are a waste of money. Highly inaccurate and a waste of ammo. All you gang bangers need to go back to aimed semi auto fire". Yeah, probably not going to happen.

They are definitely useful for shooting up a block party out the window of a dodge charger on 26" rims.
