First Hurricane of 2022!

Ahhh - fall! The leaves are ...not changing, because it's Florida.
But the wind is kicking up! The first likely Hurricane is that prepper call to action. The time of year that we all take stock.
+ It really makes you focus on 3-7 days of survival without electric etc.
+ They are serious enough to make you pay attention, but generally not devastating
+ You have a 5-7 opportunity to get things in order
I'll do some walk through/straighten up, but that's probably it.

I was just looking at it on Bay News 9. Looks like we're just about center of the cone of uncertainty for next Wednesday. Of course a lot of movement will occur in the track over the next 5 days. Right now forecast to be a Cat 3. Enough for me to consider putting the hurricane shutters up at both houses.
Food and water isn't an issue for us.

One storm is on Sched to hit FL soon....
Up in NY, the last storm passed a couple hundred miles out... just some wind and surf.
But it is a good time to check/refresh my stored gas for generator. Will be dumping stabilized old gas into old car and refilling.

Read this morning that Ian made it to hurricane status. Looks like Wednesday will be an interesting day for everyone down there.
We are supposed to have a high of 65 and sunshine on Wednesday. Since it is appears that it is coming a shore on the east side, we most likely won't see any effect from it. Typically has to hit Texas/Louisiana area for us to end up with rain bands up our direction.
Stay safe you all and I will be interested in hearing how all the preps workout and if there are any good lessons learned.

As of right now we're expecting 60-80 mph sustained winds with gust to 100 mph. 8-12 inches of rain.
We started putting up our hurricane shutters this evening, will finish tomorrow. Concern would be construction debris from the houses in our area still under construction. Supposed to be cleaned up and secured by end of business tomorrow but I'd rather be cautious.
Bob is about 25 minutes southwest of me. For him winds will be slightly higher.
We've got plenty of water, food, batteries, flashlights, lanterns and candles. Hoping the power doesn't go out for long or at all as it's still warm here in the daytime.

We'll say a prayer that it'll miss you guys. In the mean time keep your heads down.

Thank you.
Latest track has it coming in around Port Charlotte which is to our south. Should be down to a Cat 1 by the time it reaches our area.
We finished putting the shutters up today. I will start raining in earnest later tonight into tomorrow and Thursday. Figuring on around 24 hours or more of rain.
With it coming in to the south though it will actually be taking water out of Tampa Bay so that's not a bad thing in and of itself.
Pray for the folks further south.
