As I mentioned in the small caliber thread, I went to the range this evening with my wife. We rented the S&W 380EZ for her to try and she absolutely loved it! She was able to load, chamber and shoot without any issues and she said she could easily have shot another box of 50. That's a first and I'm thrilled that she's found something that she can be excited about shooting. She was so please that she wants two of them. One for the night stand and one for the purse. Fine with me. We have a local gun show this weekend so we'll go see if we can snag a couple for a good deal. Right now AL doesn't have any but I'll keep looking there as well.

The wife and I went to the gun show early this afternoon. First one she's ever been to before. Overall it was disappointing. It was about a fourth the size of the one at the Fairgrounds. Most of the prices were too high. However, we did find her a S&W 380 EZ for $350. It came with three 8-round magazines instead of the two I was expecting. I looked around and online sites listed that it comes with two. So for whatever reason, we got three and I'm not complaining at all. She absolutely loves the pistol and couldn't stop talking about it. Showed it to my son and her sister this evening. So I'm happy that she's excited about it which means she'll feel good about going to the range and practicing with it.

As I mentioned, overall the prices on most things were too high. However, I saw a box of 165g Speer Gold Dot's (box of 50) for $25. Never priced that particular load as I usually use 180g but sounded like a good deal. When I came home the cheapest I saw it was at Midway for $24.99 but the shipping was $11+ so I figure I got a pretty good deal. While I was buying the GD I asked the vendor what he had in .380. He had 90g PMC for $15 each but said he'd sell them for $10 a box. Figured I did pretty well on that deal. Bought four boxes so she can do some practicing with the new pistol.

This evening I looked online for HP ammo for her new pistol. I've been mostly using some variation of Hornaday's XTP bullet. Seems to get pretty good reviews as far as accuracy, reliability and penetration. Expansion goes from slight to pretty decent depending on the clothed gel test you're looking at. I got the American Gunner loading of the Hornaday XTP from Academy. It was only $14.99 and change for a box of 25 which is the cheapest I've seen the 380 XTP offered. Free shipping as well which was a nice bonus so I bought three boxes. That will be enough to test each mag for function and then plenty to load up with.

Here's a gel test vid using this round out of a Sig 238 with a 2.7 inch barrel. The EZ barrel is almost an inch longer so I would think that would bump up the velocity a bit and still penetrate deep enough. In the vid the penetration was 14.5 inches so with a velocity increase it should still exceed the 12 inch FBI minimum.

Nice ammo scores and the EZ should work well for her.

She hasn't stopped talking about it :D

I'm starting to think about that TX22 as well. In addition to being a good plinker it would give her a lot of trigger time in a platform that wouldn't bother her hands.

Just did a few upgrades to my Zombie Apocalypse AR:
1. Added the Holoson Circle Dot from my Shotgun to it.
2. Bonus! Found a Laser and attached that.
3. Did a little artwork.

I'll do a whole thread on it in the Custom thread up top. Need to get some Duracoat now.

On a serious note, that 380 ammo I ordered from Academy shipped Monday and will be arriving today according to the tracking number. That's great turn around time!
