In case anyone is interested I carried my dads Savage 99c in 308 this year for firearms season. I gave it to him in the 1990s and got it back when he died. It's a 70's era rifle I bought used. The "C" stands for "clip" i.e, detachable box mag. I misplaced the mag when we moved him out of his condo and into assisted living 4 years ago. Original mags are expensive as gold on ebay so I bought an aftermarket one through Numrich Arms/Gunparts Corp for $50.

It wouldn't even fit in the gun or feed a round when I first got it but eventually by tweaking the edges and follower, expanding the spring I got it to work. It's still rough feeding but I'll work on it some more over the winter.

It's got a 1-4 Bushnell scope on it which is fine for where I hunt. Thinking of going out west next year to hunt Elk or mule deer with it. Going to need a different scope. Thinking a 4-16x or 6-20 or 24x. I can shoot out to 200 yards on my property so I have time to work up some loads and test them out.

Here's my night pic of deer... large for Long Island, but can't hunt where he is.

Spent this week at The Villages house. Heading back to Michigan early Sunday morning. It took us over 18 hours to drive straight through last Sunday. Got put off I75 4 times due to accidents south of Chattanooga through Georgia. Holiday traffic. Hopefully the drive back will be less eventful.

Thanks... just got home. Almost exactly 17 hours. Clear and dry, light traffic all the way except for the I75 bridge being shut down in Cincinnati over the river. Got diverted. That added about 20 minutes to the trip. No rain this time (it always rains in Georgia).

Drove my wife's new car...a Buick Encore (small SUV). Her dad stopped driving (he's 94) and gave her his 2015 Buick LaSabre. She traded it in on the Encore, just because and they gave her a good trade deal. First Buick I've ever owned. It did fine, very comfortable and averaged about 30 mpg both ways.

Back up hunting as of yesterday. Muzzle loading season ends Sunday. Using my Mossberg 500 with a muzzle loading barrel. I picked one up about 15 years ago for $100. It will hold 3 MOA but I've not shot a deer with mine. It's a 50 cal but uses 45 cal saboted handgun bullets, powder pellets an 209 shotgun primers.

I don't think they make them anymore but you can sometimes find them on ebay.

Gonna give it one last shot before hanging it up for the year. Temps in the 30s though supposed to get 5-8" of snow tomorrow.

And I'm camping in the new house. It's not furnished yet but I brought a cot to sleep on.

I'm almost ready to mount my Swampfox Arrowhead on my 7600.

Then, dead pig!
