Re: I'm gone
Another fun fact about Iceland ...even though Iceland is just below the arctic circle its year round temperature stays fairly temperate. It pretty much stays in the 20s & 30s F in the winter due to being in the gulf stream.
Greenland is farther east and 50x larger than Iceland but not in the gulf stream. Most of Greenland is covered in ice all the time. Iceland is green except in the winter.

Re: I'm gone
Sailed through Prince Christian sound in greenland yesterday. Saw lots of waterfalls, glaciers and icebergs.. Stopped in Qarqortoq in Greenland today. Q is the southern most town in GL. Population. 3500.
Fun facts...
-GL is the largest island in the world.
-GL belongs to Norway though governs itself
-96% of the Population is Intuit native origin (same as Alaska.)
-population of GL is about 350k.

Re: I'm gone
At sea today and tomorrow. Next stop Newfoundland.
Re: I'm gone
Btw...when I was in Qarqortoq I walked into a hardware store and they had rifles for sale. All bolt actions, mostly Savage. Mostly in 30.06, 7 mm mag etc. Prices ranged from about 3200 Norway Krone to 3600. That's about $330-360 USD. Ammo was about $20/box
Re: I'm gone
There are polar bears, wolves, fox, musk ox. reindeer, seals, whale, walrus in GL.
Iceland has no predators and very few indigenous animals, mostly just migrating birds.

Yesterday was in st.johns, Newfoundland, the eastern most city in north America. Its also the place where Marconi sent the first radio signal across the Atlantic. Also has cape spear. The furthest most eastern point in North America.
At sea today. Next stop Halifax, nova scotia.

Re: I'm gone
I wonder if they have a ban on semi-auto rifles?
Re: I'm gone
What is the temps like up there? You always think of up north as cold, but my guess without looking is it is probably rather nice this time of year.Mac66 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 2:38 pm Yesterday was in st.johns, Newfoundland, the eastern most city in north America. Re: I'm gone
Temps were in the upper 70s low 80s in both st johns and Halifax. Its been unseasonably warm there. It should be noted that Halifax has the most northern port in North America that doesn't freeze over in the winter.Bmyers wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 7:56 amWhat is the temps like up there? Was in Halifax on Monday, at sea on Tuesday, arrived in Boston this morning.
Halifax is very Scottish. Nova Scotia means new Scotland. Lots of Scottish accents there, very friendly people. Beautiful city.
