Haven't updated this thread as we've been busy!

We've pulled the carpet and prepped the upstairs. Flooring has been installed and the stairs should be completed today.

Kitchen has been removed and the new one is being installed with the Butler's pantry being build this week.

I've done most of the lights and window treatments.

I tried installing an electric lock on the front door yesterday but the lock broke so I'll have to return it and get a better one. So every day when are getting small and large projects completed. I'm hoping we can be moved in, or mostly moved in by the end of the month or beginning of December.

I'll take some pics later.

Sounds like it will be a Christmas in the new house.

I certainly hope so, we have out-of-state family coming in as well as our local clan planning on spending Christmas with us in the new home. The kitchen project is about half done but was delayed until Monday so that is four days lost. My thinking is that we'll be able to be done with that project completely by the end of the month (after the construction is completed and the kitchen is installed we still have to order the counter tops and have them delivered and installed which may be an additional couple of weeks and hopefully less). I'm kinda thinking the end of the month or beginning of December for use to move the main stuff over.

We'll see how it shakes out.

Good luck, in today's delay economy, getting a project complete in a timely manner can be difficult.

Still waiting for the kitchen to be finished. The guys we have doing it are good, but slow and sporadic. Not really happy about that. Initially told it would take a couple of weeks, we're now looking at a couple of months. They haven't put in a full week on it yet, the most is three days in a week. I told my wife no more money until the kitchen is finished completely.

At any rate, they laser measure for the quartz countertops next Monday. Probably a couple of weeks after that they get installed. We're going to try and actually move in sometime next week. We'll see how that goes.

Construction:
you can get it done:
1. fast
2. right
3. cheap

However, you can not choose more than two options.

What you are learning about retirement is what I also tell people who are contemplating the same. Stay working for another year. You have figured out how to have a working life and a private life at the same time. You will not get things done any faster or cheaper if you retire and think you are going to take charge and also do some things yourself.

Well, when I posted that you would be celebrating Christmas in the new house, I didn't say which Christmas, so I guess my post is still accurate.

Good luck. It is frustrating getting work completed now days. Seems like no one is really that interested in doing the work and those that are and do good work are so booked there are long delays.

Main kitchen is pretty much done. Counters have been measured and are suppose to take a couple of weeks to get in and installed. Finishing details still need to be completed. Plumbing after the counter tops. Back splash will come when the wife decides what she wants to do with it.

Then I'll need to see about ordering cabinets and counters for the pantry.

The mini kitchen 'mostly' got done today as far as cabinets and electrical. Plumbing still needs to be done. And base boards.

Gas needs to be hooked up and turned on. I'm hopeful that will happen by mid next week. If so we can then start the actual move in process.
