I have officially made the decision to kill a pig. Stay tuned.

Nice job on the doe - now...haunt that buck like the grim reaper until you get him!

Bow season starts October 1 here. There are a couple 8 pointers along with at least 2 6pt bucks running around. Not to mention the 4, 3 and spikes. Been seeing them in the radishes everyday. The big 8 pt has been within bow range twice. The smaller 8 pt and 6pt have come close enough once each so far.

Slept in this morning but I'll be out in the food plot every morning and evening this week scouting.

I'm home from the cabin. Our house was delivered Monday, set on the foundation on Wednesday. They are working on the garage and finishing the assembly for the next couple weeks.

In the mean time a photo of the deer I shot.

117 year old rifle, 50+ year old scope and ammo, 2.5 year old doe.

Nice Doe. There's something about lever guns, my favorite style.

Well I have a few lever guns that I hunt with. They include a Marlin 375, Marlin 336 in 35 Rem, Marlin 94 in 44 mag and a 1980s era Savage 99 in 308. I've taken deer with all of them though this was the first i've killed with the old 99. I think I like my dad's 99 the best.

Proof that a well taken care of firearm will last a VERY long time. Nice doe! One of my new neighbors is an avid hunter, I might see about going with him at some point after we move next year.

I'm sitting in my blind on my food plot right now. Been here since Wednesday. Seen an assortment of bucks including a couple 8 pts, a 10 pt, 6 pt, 3.5 pt and 4 pt. Had a 5 pt come out about 15 yards away but I passed. The other bucks were to far for a bow shot. It's a waiting game. They've been coming out later and later in the evening.

I'm now back in camp. Had the same 3.5 pt come out. I've seen him just about every day this week. A button buck along with a couple doe came out as well. The doe were close enough to shoot but i passed since i already shot a doe this year.

Got out to the farm yesterday morning, looked across the creek to the apple trees and stood a big old buck munching on apples. I went to grab my camera and the buck looked up, snorted and off into the woods he went.

I'm home for a few days to look after my 93 year old mother. Back up on Tuesday night until Sunday to hunt and look after the house building project.

That's how you get to be a big old buck....
