Small survival kits

Post by David »

Figured it would be interesting to start a thread on small survival kits. Stuff like the credit card kits, Altoid tin kits and other small kits that you DIY or buy.

Kicking off the thread...

A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

Ordered the above back on the Jan 18th along with this item:

Both arrived yesterday which isn't too bad. The item in the quote is made from stainless steel and actually seems pretty heavy duty. Small enough to put in a wallet or credit card holder (which I'm going to tryout). The second one, the fishing card also seems to be made of pretty decent gauge steel. Flexible enough to be able to twist individual parts out of the card but sturdy enough to use a least once if not more. Probably something you'd never actually use, but interesting enough, and inexpensive enough to try out in the wild so see what you could actually do with it. The hooks are fairly small so you're not going to be catching a whopper using them, but a smaller fish is likely. The first item was $1.71 and could actually get a little bit of use, the second was $3.06 which is cheap enough to toy around with.

This arrived the other day. The flashlight is pretty much useless of course, but the other items inside would prove useful. The scissors would be useful as would the little pen. And the little knife I actually used when I was installing my extended mag release on my HK P2000.

Not a bad idea. More than 40 years ago, I had classes with Ron Hood and we made survival kits using empty film containers.
1. the posted is a good list.
2. my reality, not yours, is that when I take one item out of a container stuffed with other items, I can't get the things back into container.
3. so long as you have items and provision your car on a reduced scale, you have done what you can IF you are not taking 50 mile hikes solo in the wilderness. This is why I carry a couple of tied down and locked waterproof Korean military bags and an empty pack in the trunk of the car. It will take a few minutes. However, the items are there and I can choose and not have to move with what I don't need for the next day. Or, I can go to ground in an underground parking structure for many days.
