Glocktalk S&P what happened?

Post by aerynsun »

What happened to Glocktalk?

The site sucks. After I log in it is slow and I can't access anything. Someone sent me a private message and I can't read it.

Also, in the S&P section there are only trolls.

I gave up on the site. I'd delete my account but it is too much work.

Several of use here are senior members on GT, having been there since almost the beginning. The board has changed quite a bit from the old days, and mostly not in a good way. The moderation isn't good (I'm being nice). And the trolls run free in many of the sections. One guy had a shill account in addition to his main account for several years. Used it to agree with himself when he got into arguments with other members, which he was contently doing. He made the mistake of quoting someone that had quoted his main account screen name but answered it with his shill account screen name by mistake. I pointed it out to one of the moderators and the mod got upset with me for pointing it out. They finally suspended or maybe banned the guy as he hasn't been around since January. But in general, they have too many self-appointed experts hijacking threads with outdated or irrelevant posts. Gets really tedious.

Over the years GT has been hacked several times directly and had several data dumps. A ton of information was lost over the years. Unfortunately it happens. It happened last year to us so we simply rebuilt.

As far as the S&P section. It was the old Y2K section and off and on it's been a ghost town. From time to time it would get busy but generally speaking it's pretty slow. So a few years back (wow...maybe 5 or 6 years now?) the SEP board was started. Members from both GT and the old SRI forum were the founding members. And though we aren't huge with members, we have a dedicated group of really knowledgeable members and it's slowly growing. Not everyone came over and there is one stick-in-the-mud guy in the S&P section that steadfastly refuses to come over and join us despite being invited by numerous members a number of times. In fact, he's gone so far as to try to have mods remove any references to the SEP board. It's a shame but he's welcome to talk with himself over there if he likes.

We've also been very fortunate in that we have no trolls. We have disagreements but it's always respectful. There are a lot of folks on GT that just wouldn't make it over here.
A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

Remember - Glock Talk is a gun forum, with a survival sub-forum. So you get a lot of bullets > food people, political commenters, etc.

Way better actual preparedness here.

I agree 100% with Dave,over-modding and favorites. We want a polite exchange of ideas, not a free for all.I like Dave are long time members of GT,we just got tired of the whizzing contests there.I rarely post on the site, but it does have good info if 1 knows where to look.'08.
I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I'd rather have and not need it,as to need and not have it.
