I agree. I look once a year on line re that and also for inexpensive night vision gear. The technology is lagging.

a couple of things I have found...
I currently run a couple of large solar panels ( 200w ) to car batteries for outdoor lighting ( and as emergency power if needed )

1) the small portable units are basically worthless as they don't produce enough current to charge in a normal day. I had in the past a Uni-Solar panel that did work well but the company is out of business. Used it to charge C cell pack while camping for led lighting.
2) If you do find a unit that works expect to pay $150 and up.... these $30 unit fall into #1
3) expect on most days to get about 30-40% of rated power out, as the max output runs between a couple hour before and after noon with good placement
You can't fix stupid !

Solare panels have advanced enough that we have clients that are switching out their current systems and installing the new panels.

Assuming you mean roof mounted systems... Yes they have improved quite a bit.

Still the pay back on costs is over ten years.

Both. We do roof mounts but we also do ground array systems. Been seeing more and more ground array systems just because of the size of them and not enough rough space.
