Tampa getting hit by a REAL storm directly
Tampa getting hit by a REAL storm directly
Gonna be interesting!
Re: Tampa getting hit by a REAL storm directly
Interesting watching how the storm has been developing.
Re: Tampa getting hit by a REAL storm directly
Still a Cat 5 this morning. This will be a costly storm.
Re: Tampa getting hit by a REAL storm directly
Was suppose to weaken to a Cat 3 but I see the latest forecast has it at a Cat 4 now. We are right on the left edge of the cone-of-uncertainty. Bob is 15-30 miles south of me so he is just inside the cone. Gene is a lot closer to landfall so prayers for him and his family. Joe is well north of us.
It the track holds true then Bob and I will be getting a LOT of rain and Tropical Storm force winds. The storm is always the worst in the NE quadrant. Hurricane force winds only extend out about 30 miles or so though. I've got the shutters up on the house. If it stays to the south of Tampa Bay then water will be sucked out of the bay which is a good thing. Storm surge will be greatly reduced around the bay. However, Sarasota, if the track holds and it's still a Cat 4, could face a 15+ foot storm surge along the coast. So again, prayers for Gene as I'm not sure where he is in Sarasota.

A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

When these 'events' occur, and I see the last-minute panic buying, it reminds me of why I/we here do our best to prepare ahead of time. Can I be ready for any contingency? Probably not, I just do the best I can with what I have to work with.
Be Safe Y'all! God Bless!

Re: Tampa getting hit by a REAL storm directly
I have my whole deal together....Down to safe rooms stocked with Water, MRE's, Trauma kits. Running final battery checks on flashlights right now.
It's further south, and back down to Cat three when hitting land. Not going to be fun, but going to be fine (fingers crossed). Still, never know when epic tree or tornado could occur.
As Dave said, north east eye is what you don't want to directly hit you, and the south east is where the storm surge will be huge.
Good without doing anything. Now going through the deep-preps. Some old batteries didn't make it, a few dead flashlights, random other things. Still far more things than necessary.
Bonus: Just found out that my home is on the same grid as the local Hospital, Fire, and Police station. Power is resiliant and priority back on!
