Brush hog Disk harrow

Post by Mac66 »

I picked up a brush hog and disc harrow for my tractor today. Bought them used. Got a pretty good deal.

Need the disc for plowing my food plot, its too rocky for a roto tiller. I looked at RTs but my food plot guy said I needed a disc.

The brush hog is basically a heavy duty lawn mower. It can cut thick brush and runs off the tractors power take off. It was a year old and is sized for my tractor. Got a good deal. The guy who had it used it a couple times then bought a bigger one for his bigger tractor.

Pics when I get home.

Still looking for a spreader to spread lime, fertilizer and seed.

So I finally figured out how to hook up the brush hog to the tractor. I took it out to cut the brush along the road. Worked pretty good until I hit a rock and dented a blade and sheared a pin. Now the blade won't turn. Good news is that it's just a 1/2" grade 2 bolt used as a a shear pin. Going back up on Thursday and will repair it. Also ordered a new pull starter spring for my Coleman mini bike. So I'll get that fixed as well. It's always something.

Sprayed the food plot last weekend with vegetation killer.
The process is to kill everything, then plow the field, then spread lime to even out the PH of the soil, then plant buckwheat probably, grow, cut about mid summer, grow up again, then cut it down, plow it over and plant radishes somewhere around mid August.

I'm learning this farming thing as I go.

Very cool to see the progress. Looks like you've got good weather right now for this sort of thing.
A man cannot call himself peaceful if he is not capable of violence. If he's not capable of violence he isn't peaceful, he is harmless. There is a distinct difference.

Fate whispers to the warrior "You cannot weather this storm". The warrior replies, "I am the storm".

Went from being in the 40s to the 80s this week. 88 right now. Came in for lunch. Trying to talk myself into going back out on the tractor.
