Spammers

Just to toss out a quick note, spammers are out and about

I zap them as soon as I see them, but if one gets through with a post or a pm just give me a shout out and I'll zap them when I log in the next time.

I've made it difficult for them during registration with COPPA and email verification checks, but some of the crafty ones still get through. So I appreciate the heads-up if you see one before I do.

For those that see spammers before I do, I appreciate it. I zap them and remove any spam thread or post they make. I have set it back to Admin approval for new registrations. Since I usually check the board multiple times a day it shouldn't be that long for your account to get activated. I appreciate your patience and understanding. If one does slip through, no worries, they'll get zapped as soon as I see it.

I'm very pleased to say that the software is stopping all the spammers from sneaking onto the board. Everyday I'm zapping a half dozen or so that have registered but can't make it onto the board. If you see one before me it's because I approved the account (mostly because a few of the spammers use normal looking emails) but if/when the occasional one makes it through they'll be zapped as soon as they try to sell whatever it is they're trying to sell.

Zapping spammers is oddly satisfying

Looks like GT has been getting hit hard with spammers lately. The first page and a half of the Glocking section is all spam ads by the same new user. I'm glad to see our software is blocking almost all of these clowns.

Edited to add: two and a half pages of the intro section on GT are all spam. The mods/admins are slipping big time over there! Someone's gonna have some clean up to do.

I had to laugh this morning. The first 5 pages of General Glocking are filled up with spam on GT. And it started 6 hours ago. Which kinda lets you know how well their security settings are working or how on the ball the mods/admins are on GT.

Got the heads up that a spammer got through and was spamming some in their PM's. That account has been zapped. :)

The scammers have gone into overtime on several different gun sites. Our board continues to get up to 10+ attempts a day but I'm able to zap them pretty quick before they even make it to the board.

One of the BST sites for guns in my state has been overrun by scammers/spammers. Waiting to see if the owner/Admin is going to clean it up or not. It's either gay porn all over the pages or brand new/never fired Glock 19X's for $400 and shipping is approved!

Well the recent board update has really improved the security of the board. Prior to the update I was deleting a dozen or more spam accounts every day. I had the board set so that all new registrations required my approval so they wouldn't get through and spam the forum with ads. However, since the update we haven't had a single one which is fantastic. I've gone back to the new user having to verify via their email and it's working great.
