Glock 19, Sig P320 or HK P30
Glock 19, Sig P320 or HK P30
Tossing out a choice between three comparable pistols (in terms of size, capacity etc). G19 can be whatever Gen you prefer. Sig can be whatever size you prefer (full, carry, compact etc).
Which would you prefer, and why?

None of the above.

Not relevant anymore Dave. You'll be receiving a letter from HK Customer Service to turn in your HK for even asking this.
HK - no question. Ultra reliable, Ultra sturdy, ultra ergonomic. Nothing wrong with the Glock. But the HK just oh so right!

Re: Glock 19, Sig P320 or HK P30
I don't even recall why I was asking this particular question?
Although I sorta liked the P320 as far as some of it's features, I really have no desire to own one again. I suppose if someone gave me one but I have no plans on ever purchasing one or trading for one.
I do like the Glock 19 in Gen 5 and have had a couple of them. Just don't seem to hang on to them though. Of course, both times I sold them for hefty profits so that was a motivation. I can pick up a Gen 5 Glock 19 any day of the week for $425.
The HK P30 didn't sing to me years ago. Bob, you'll remember that Shane bought one for a good price and brought it to an SEP show-n-tell. But wow, it really grew on me and lately it just feels right in my hand. So much so that I picked up that P30sk to compliment it, both in V3.
So I guess I'd have to go with the P30 all day long if given a choice between these three.

Re: Glock 19, Sig P320 or HK P30
I am a guy who strongly believes for a SHTF situation you want something readily available. So Glock is an easy go to. The Sig being the new military sidearm is also a good choice. The HK while maybe better or nicer to some, I have never had one, is not quite as common. I want to be able to grab a gun or mags and be able to keep fighting. So that is why I have both the G19 and Sig. In a perfect world I would not need to rely solely on this thought process but you never know and you should be very comfortable with the platforms most readily available.

I know where you're coming from. As an academic question, between just these three choices, I went with the P30. Of the three it is the most comfortable (imo) pistol because it can be customized. It's built like a tank (look at the HK thread for a link to a 91K test) and comes with a lot of options as far as triggers (DAO, LEM, DA/SA).Horskinator wrote: ↑Sat May 09, 2020 9:26 pm I am a guy who strongly believes for a SHTF situation you want something readily available. For shtf though, and I put this in another thread, the obvious choice would be my G22.4. I already have a 9mm conversion barrel and may pick up a 357sig barrel 'just because' to make it a 3-in-1 pistol. With the availability of parts, even possible on the fly, capacity options and overall ease of use, durability and reliability make it the strongest contender.

So based off if I was just picking to pick I would say the P320-M17 I just picked up. The trigger felt great right out of the box. I have had Glocks and Sigs forever. I would love to try a HK to be completely able to address this topic.David wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 9:40 amI know where you're coming from. Re: Glock 19, Sig P320 or HK P30
One of the Deputies on my shift has an M17 and loved it. I haven't talked with him much since I retired, I'd have to ask him if he still has it because he likes to swap guns more than I use to, (and no commentary from the peanut gallery is needed, lol). But yeah, he was all hot to get one and then when he did he was singing it's praises. As far as the P320, I liked the various sizes available, the ability to change calibers easily, the FCU that could be swapped out, and the ability to easily strip a mag during a malfunction drill. Lots of positives to the pistol.
I also had a P250 in 45acp and really liked that pistol as well. Doesn't seem the P250 ever got the love the P320 did but I liked it. Yet another pistol I should have hung on to as I had it set up nice.
As far as HK, well, I've been into them lately and for a while. I've got a P30, P30sk, P2000 and USPc. Those are all detailed in other threads. But they are built like tanks and you can feel the difference. From what I understand, the USP was built around the 40 S&W and not simply a pistol converted over from an existing 9mm like others. And while I tout the Glock 22 and 23 and would love to have a Gen 5 G23 if produced, in the long run they probably won't hold up as well as a 40 in an HK pistol. A local, large PD in the county I worked issued both G22 and G23 years ago. And while generally well received and successful they did have issues with many of them over time. Frames cracking and such. They would probably have been Gen 3's. Not all of the pistols of course, but enough that you heard about it through the grapevine. I was an agency instructor so I was tuned into that sort of thing. The Gen 4's are suppose to be stronger overall. As a side note, our agencies G21.3's had over 300K rounds on some of the training pistols. So stark difference in how well some of the models hold up. I think, all things being equal, an HK is going to hold up better and longer than a Glock in the higher pressure calibers.
That isn't to say the G23 is junk. It's a good pistol and again, I'd like to have one in a Gen 5 if they made them (I don't like Glock finger grooves). And I think the Gen 4 (and up) fares better than previous models.
But yeah, if you get a chance to try HK, give them a go. Bob here is an HK guy as well. Bmyers is our resident 'Glock' guy and has a wealth of experience with them.

Re: Glock 19, Sig P320 or HK P30
I like to limit my calibers and keep things simple. So I have 9mm, 45 ACP, and 38/357 for pistols. Never really enjoyed the 40. I see it uses and have shot it out of a Sig that my step dad owned, I believe a 229 or 226. Either way you might have me convinced to drink some of the HK kool-aide.

It's the only gun on the market you can load the ammo in backwards And remember HK's motto: You suck and we hate you.Horskinator wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 10:33 am I like to limit my calibers and keep things simple.
