The PCC thread

Post by David »

As with the shotgun thread, I realized we hadn't yet (re)started the PCC thread. So here we go

I like PCC's. Currently I have a couple of Gen 2 Sub 2K's. One in green and the other in FDE. So far I've very much enjoyed shooting both of them at the range. I put a laser on the green one that I gave to my wife for her HD long gun. Due to some issues she is unable to raise it to the shoulder and lean her head over to sight it, so I put a green laser on hers so she can shoot it from the hip. She does this very well and really enjoys shooting it since it is very little recoil. Her typical distances would be across the room.

I have a Tac light and RD optic on mine. Both are keep hidden but readily accessible in our bedroom. At the moment I have hers loaded with a Remington UMC standard velocity 115 JHP to keep recoil down. With the bump in velocity, which is about 200 FPS, should allow it to expand well while, from what I've researched, still allow for adequate penetration. Considering switching over to WWB 147 JHP. Minimal, if any, velocity increase but the recoil may be even less. I'll have to run a bit through it first though.

Mine is loaded with 124+P GD which is my issued round. From what I've seen, it should do very well out of the PCC.

I have been a PCC fan for 20 years now. My first was the HK USC back in 2000. In 2003 had one of the first Beretta CX4s in Ohio. Around 2008 I got a Rock River AR-9 that proved the ergonomics of the AR were a huge improvement over the others. When Lone Wolf introduced the G9 in 2011 it combined those AR ergos with Glock mags. Just about the best combo around. Currently I have a G9 SBR with a Liberty Mystic suppressor on it and a 16" G9 set up more for competition.
The glut of quality PCCs nowadays makes it easy to pick a really great one. Ruger is probably one of the best bargains at $400-500. The CZ is very popular around $800-1000. Sig offers the MPX in various models up to around $2000. AR models can be found at almost every price point depending on what you're looking for. I think everyone should have one for competition, HD, training, or just plain fun.

One of my shooting buddies has a CZ Scorpion. He's in love with that PCC. I think it was in the $900 neighborhood but he got it for a bit less.

I went classic old-stool with my PCC; Rossi Stailess 20" Lever Action in .357

I would love an Uzi (or that CZ Scorpion!!!). I think both are large/heavy, but pretty cool. And of course, a lot to love with a Keltec Sub 2k or a Highpoint 995.

I honestly think a PCC with pistol/PCC combo is a way better HD/SD choice for most homes than an AK/AR etc...Simple, ammo compatible, great for indoor use, way more portable than a rifle. Would handle 99% of all SD needs in a SHTF, as well as bigger SHTF's

Agreed, Bob. Very few situations where you need more range or power than a PCC offers.
Much easier to effectively suppress them too.

Not a fan of PCCs normally but for HD I agree with Bob, they are better than a high powered rifle. I have an UZI built from parts and Mech Tech CCU for my 1911 in 45 acp. I also have a couple of carbines in 44 mag but a 44 mag out of a rifle is a completely different animal than out of a pistol so I don't count them. Except I could use 44 spls in the lever gun.

And the CCU a little more modernized.

I have enough parts except for the receiver to build another UZI so thinking about building a short barreled pistol version with a brace.

I think about the times I have shot greater than 200 yards hunting. Pretty sure it is none. Average corn field in PA is way farther across than anywhere in suburbia

After 100 yards, I’m generally thinking run/hide/cover - not fight. 9mm out of 16” will work fine for that

I suppose there are times, for a private citizen in a self defense situation, where a rifle-caliber rifle makes sense. If I were living out in the country, fairly far away from potential help/back up, a solid rifle like an AK/AR would supply a lot of comfort. My brother use to live out in the boonies, on a mountain on 26 acres. He’s moved but still in a fairly rural setting. He relies on a 12g Maverick 88 and an AK for long gun HD. And that’s not to say a rifle ‘in town’ wouldn’t also be highly useful. But in general, a PCC makes sense in a lot of situations if not the majority of SD situations. If I had to tap off rounds indoors, I’d rather touch off a PCC than a rifle as far as decibel levels given the choice.

Kel-Tec Sub2000 in FDE. I also have one in OD green. Both are Gen 2 with Glock magazines.
