The World Health Organization says that every year more than 3.4 million people die as a result of water related diseases, making it the leading cause of disease and death around the world. Most of the victims are young children, the vast majority of whom die of illnesses caused by organisms that thrive in water sources contaminated by raw sewage.

Basically four main things in polluted water will make you sick and/or kill you;

• Protozoa

• Virus

• Bacteria

• Parasites

Two of the most common are Cryptosporidium and Giardia. Any of these things can compromise you, make you sick, dehydrate you and make it difficult/impossible for you to effectively care for yourself or others. Add to this being in an emergency situation and the problem is compounded. You need a good product and/or method to make your drinking water safe (as well as the water used for hygiene). Take a look at the 'Water' section of the board for various ideas, methods and products.

In the video in my above post, you'll notice many recommendations for gear. I like Sootch's videos, but he gets sent a LOT of stuff for free it seems and the prices are way out of whack on some of them. For example, the MOLLE visor organizer he talks about first;

The asking price for this is $40. I'm all for buying American and supporting small businesses, but that price is ridiculous. If you don't mind waiting for a PRC items here's one of a dozen different types;

My point is to shop around. You're likely to find the same or similar for a lot cheaper. Somethings you don't necessarily want to skimp on, a car visor organizer is probably something you don't have to invest heavily into for some place to store your glasses, a pen flashlight and other little odds and ends.

I clicked on a Wilderness Outfitters video while surfing YT last night. That's Dave Canterbury's group. Saw several new folks in his group I'd not seen before so I"ll be taking a further look at what they have to offer. There was four different people and this gentleman seemed to have a lot of videos to offer.
