I think the interesting thing is that when you compare micro 9s with compact 9s there is very little difference in size. For example the new Ruger Max 9 is only a couple ounces lighter, 1/2" shorter and something like a 1/10" inch narrower than the Ruger Security 9 compact. Both have 10 rd mags but the Sec 9 also has a 15 rd mag, the Max is only 12. The Max is $500, the S9C was around $200 before the virus, probably around $300 now.

And BTW, the Sec 9C is also only 1/2" longer than the LC9s and 3-4ozs heavier

All the other Micro 9s are within fractions of inches and ounces of one another.

Looks like you can compare any type of gun on that website.

Yes, but if size was all that matters everybody would be carrying Keltec P32s or LCPs etc. The fact that people are flocking to the double stack "micro" 9s over the single stack 9s and the so called "micro" 9s are actually heavier if in some cases fractionally longer is an interesting dichotomy of thought. Particularly when the "compact" double stack 9s are also heavier and fractionally longer as well. Certainly high cap mags have some appeal but at the cost of weight, width and in some cases length. Whereas simply carrying an extra single stack mag makes up the capacity issue. Gun buyers tend to be somewhat fickle, always looking for the next best thing. I tend to be somewhat frugal, always looking for the best value for the job. If that means taking a "compact" that it only fractionally bigger than a "micro" but $200 cheaper then I'm interested.

Let's compare some similar sized pistols, one being a single-stack and the other a micro 9.

My primary EDC is a Ruger LC9s pro.
It's pretty much all I carry

Sig P365 = 5.8 length, height 4.1 (10-round mag), 1.0 width, barrel 3.1, sight radius N/A, weight 17.8 empty, 22.3 loaded.

A typical 9mm weighs .45 ounces (14 grams) and a 40 S&W .60 ounces (17 grams). That is a ball park and will differ depending on bullet weight and other factors.

The LC9s is 0.10 inch thinner but slightly longer overall, slightly taller. Barrel length is virtually the same. Empty weight is virtually the same with loaded 2 ounces heavier. The gain is 3 rounds, Xray night sight and additional capacity options. It is probably double the price.

That site definitely gives you food for thought. However statistics don't tell the whole story. I got a very good trade on a S&W M&P Shield 2.0. It is a single stack and very close in size to the LC9s I have. It was only a 1/10th of an inch longer, an ounce heavier but the shape of it was more squared off and boxy. It carried the same in my pocket and IWB but It wasn't as comfortable to hold and shoot as the LC9. I didn't like the grip and ended up trading it for an S&W EZ380 which is a bigger gun but more suitable for my wife to shoot. The Shield 2.0 was intended to be my carry gun, the EZ380 was intended as my wife's HD gun so not an apples to apples trade or comparison.

The point is statistics don't give you a feel for the gun in the hand. Having said that, you can often get used to a gun that doesn't feel as good as another.

Prior to getting the P365, I found myself carrying the LC9 (and later the LC9s) more than my G26 (which had been my standard off-duty for years). It was actually the only pistol that felt comfortable AIWB (which is not my favorite way to carry a pistol). I don't recall trying to carry the P365 AIWB so I don't have a direct comparison.

I usually carry OWB on my strong side at around the 3-4 O'clock position. Been doing that for decades and just feel comfortable with it. But I'm having a heck of a time finding an OWB holster for the P365XL that will accommodate the XL with TLR-6 WML. I may have to look into an IWB to see what options present themselves.
