Phaser Cannon vs. Gatling Phaser

Post by IKV Avenger »

Phaser Cannon (EB101.0) Module E3 Borak

The Ph-C fires as a ph-2, up to three times in a turn for two points of power. Each firing is 2/3 point of power. Compare to the Ph-G that fires as a ph-3 up to four times in a turn for one point of power (1/4 each). It may fire all shots in a single impulse if at the same target, or spread it out over different impulses. If a ship equipped with a phaser-cannon is also equipped with aegis fire control (D13.0), one or more shots from the phaser-cannon may be fired in any of the four aegis firings (D13.14).

Despite costing twice the power (which is still extremely efficient and effective for the damage output), at R0 as an example, the Ph-C is actually better at total damage output. The minimum it could do is 15 points of damage with the maximum being 18 points as opposed to the ph-G with has a 12/16 range.

This continues with a productive range limit of R3 for the ph-C where it will still do between 9/12 vs. the ph-G for 0/12.

It has the added benefit, after refit, of firing as a single Ph-1 if a longer range shot is needed. Particularly helpful on a Mizia/Alpha shot outside of R3 though that is about the only time I'd see it as more useful than simply firing as the standard ph-C.
My other car is a D7 Battlecruiser.
