Breed the middle doe today.  Two fall-offs.

April 16th the nesting box goes in.

Also, put 65 eggs in the Little Giant incubator this evening.  Lock down on April 4th.

One egg got damaged early on some how so that left 64 eggs. I had 33 hatch so that's just a tad over a 50% hatch rate. I had to cull one that couldn't stay upright for some reason so I've got 32 total. That's pretty good since this is a new incubator for me and I had some difficulty getting the temp to stay consistent.

I still have it plugged in to see if anymore hatch by tomorrow. If not I'll clean it out and ready for the next go around.

Okay, busy weekend!

#2 doe kindled Friday night (let's go with April 22nd).

100 quail eggs placed in incubator 4/21.  Lock down on May 5th.

12 roosters left out of last hatch.

8 white rabbits left out of last kindle.  Looking to butcher (if not sold) in a couple of weeks or so.

The 100 quail eggs should start hatching around tomorrow. Got several folks wanting to buy chicks out of that batch.

All 12 of those roosters sold.

Butchered half of the white rabbits this last week. Other four will be butchered and sent to freezer camp this week.

Disappointed to only get a 29% hatch rate.  I usually stay between 50%-70%.  Had a bit of difficulty keeping the temp steady.

Put another 100 eggs in last night.  I'll count today as day #1.

Lock down May 31.  Expected hatch June 4th.

Selling the rabitry to someone next Tuesday.  I've had it for almost a year and a half and have enjoyed it.  And I enjoyed the free fertilizer!  But I've got vacation coming up at the end of the month and I want to built a better quail coop and I need the area.  It was a choice between the rabbits and quail and I chose to keep the quail.  Yes, the rabbits are bigger/more meat. But the quail give me both eggs and meat and they produce more and sooner.  I can have a full grown quail in half the time of a rabbit (that isn't even full grown but has reached fryer weight).

Plus I want to build a better BSF larvae bin since that has really started to produce quail feed for me.  That's a $ savings as I don't have to buy as much game bird feed, or as often.  Right now, between the maggot bins and the BSF larvae bins I'm getting on some days quite a bit of feed.
