Prepping For Gas Shortages
#11
Didn't know Kero will run well in a diesel... I guess its like hi-octane reg diesel with the lower flash point.
Already have 20 gal for the emergency heater

First of all - as always - a great reminder of how fragile the supply chain really is…

I keep 20 gallons on hand. I try to rotate through one 5 gal monthly. I always add Stabil. You never low when gas will crap out. I have had non-treated gas make a year, or not make 3 months. That way if I forget for say 6 months - no problem. I might go up to 6 - 5 gal cans soon.

I keep the gas on hand mostly for the ability to go stealth using my car on idle and the inverter. But as with ALL my preps - I absolutely toss 5 gallons in here and there. "Aww damn - I don't want to go get gas and I want to get in to work early…without stopping to fill up"

Yep, that's what I have as well.  From what I understand it is more 'fuel efficient' than a generator and definitely more quiet.

We have some sub-division wide garage sales coming up so I'll see if I can snag some more gas cans.

Instead of car inverter, wouldn't it be better to run a small inverter gennie like the Generac iX800 ( gets 5+ hr on 1/2 gall for 800watts )
northern Tools for $319

I'll need to look into that, thanks for the heads up.

Not familiar with that. But - ANY generator - free standing; Needs maintenance, upkeep, and is generally loud. Only use is when needed.

Car; Quiet, not obvious, tested daily.

You build a sound sink for large gennys. You havta be within 20ft of ours to here, plus honda gennys are super quiet out the box.'08.
