Yep, those work great.  We've used them in an Esbit stove on our SEP gatherings as a fuel tab.  Last about 10 minutes which is enough to boil water or cook something.  Burn dirtier than store-bought fuel tabs but nothing a little dirt and water can't clean.  And they cost like nothing to make since it is stuff you were going to throw out anyway.
