SEP Gathering #10
#1
Thumbs Up
Okay folks, we're getting back into the season of the SEP Gatherings Smile

This will be the 10th outing and I'm pumped!  Our target date is November 6-8 (Friday-Sun).  Our target location is Serenova Tract:

Serenova Tract

Serenova Tract is over 6500sq acres and backs up to J.B. Starkey Wilderness which is another 8000sq acres.  Just in Serenova Tract there are 18 miles of trails.  Fishing is on the agenda (Shane caught a beautiful Rainbow Trout last year).  Historical/archeological sites are also along some of the trails.

We are looking at getting the same primitive site as last year.  This is somewhat unique in that the primitive sites are not far away from where you park your vehicle so it will offer the fun of a primitive site while having access to your vehicle if you want a few extra luxuries.  Figured that was a nice way to kick off the season.

The site itself is huge and there is room for dozens of people.  And this is one of the sites that has an extra large fire ring.

We'll plan on being there Friday afternoon and leave Sunday morning.  Come for one or both days as your schedule allows.

This year I'm looking to bring the sling shot and maybe the pellet rifle for plinking and target practice and of course the fishing poles.

If you can make it, give a shout out here in the thread.

@ Bob and Shane (and everyone coming out)

Looked up the topo and google maps of the area.  From the campsite to where Serenova Tract joins J.B. Starkey is at least 4 1/2 miles (probably a bit longer).  The most direct route is the power line trail but it can be accessed in a round about way via some of the other trails we haven't been on yet.  As a point of reference, the lake where Shane caught the trout is maybe 1/5 of the distance to J.B. Starkey.  So it is a fair hiking distance to be sure.

I think this would be a good opportunity for some compass/map navigation practice.

I'd also like to possibly do some tracking exercises as well.

It will be a full weekend Smile

If you look like food, you will be eaten.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Quantity has a quality all of its own.

Yes, if you click on the link in the OP the address and google map will be on the upper right of the page.  Basically on SR52 just west of the Suncoast Parkway.  Perhaps a mile from the Suncoast Pkwy.  Do you think you can make it?
