Hunting Season
#31
One thing I have no shortage of is squirrels. Who knew a rat that lives in trees could be so tasty!

My 27 year old daughter came up to the cabin today to see the fall colors . Absolutely beautiful day. We walked around the property and she asked if she could go out in the woods with me when I went hunting this evening.  I said why don't you hunt? She had never hunted before though i had invited her numerous times. She had taken hunters safety years ago. A quick run to town to get her a license and some quick practice with a crossbow and I set her up in a ground blind near the food plot.

At dusk about 5 does came out, she picked the biggest and shot her through the heart at 30 yards. It ran abound 30 yards into the woods and laid down. She said later," I don't see why you guys make such a big deal, that was easy." I laughed. She was actually
pretty excited.

That is great! Anytime you get to spend time with your child is wonderful and now she is learning something that you and her could share for years. Plus, you are building some great memories for her. My dad never hunted by both of my grandpas did. They have both passed, but I have lots of great memories hunting and fishing with them.

Good skills and great memories.

How are you taking the squirrels John?

I figure my .177 or .22 pellet rifle would be ideal for that sort of hunting.

Joe would just use a sling shot  Big Grin

My trusty 22. Though I may or may not try some trapping methods when the season starts... ?
