Felt it might be interesting to have a SG thread.

Been a SG instructor for the agency since '97.  We use the Remington 870 at work (4-shot tube).  Couple of years ago I bought myself a Christmas present for the house, Mossberg 500 Persuader (7-shot tube).  But on the type of side saddle that you Velcro and it's held up well.  Also put a universal flashlight mount and a Covoy S2+ flashlight on it.  Came with a regular stock but I've since put on a pistol grip since this is more for HD.  Still have the stock of course if I need to convert it back for other purposes.

Down the road I'd like to get another one, mainly for my son but also as a back up (the two is one/one is none mantra).  Not sure if I want another 12g or perhaps a 20g?  Still tossing around the pros and cons on that one.

Whatcha got?  What's the main roll for your SG?

Benelli M1 tactical. Used for 3-gun competitions but would work for defense or hunting.

I have an old (1950's vintage) Remington Wingmaster 12 gauge that the barrel was shot out. I had a double barrel that I used for hunting so I was not that interested in getting a new barrel to bring the 870 back to the hunting arena. I needed a home defense weapon and I had a friend that had a poly pistol grip/forend kit for a 870 that he let me have for a 38/357 set of dies. I cut down the barrel to 18.5" and drilled/tapped a new sight bead and installed the poly furniture. It stayed like that for a number of years and I ran into a sale on tube extensions and I added an extension to give it an equal length look. For true 2&3/4" shells I can have 7 in the tube. I have found the S&B low recoil 00 buck to be 2&5/16" and I can fit 8 of them in the tube.

About 7 years ago I inherited a Mossberg 500 Tactical. It had been used and abused. One of the set screws for taking the trigger assembly out is missing and the threaded portion in the receiver is all buggered up. It has potential but it needs to be fixed before it ever gets fired again. It is on a list of things to do - its been 7 years and counting...

My brother has been using a Maverick 88 for years on his property.  Seems to have held up well and he's had no issues.  Uses it to dispatch the occasional large critter trying to get into the hen house or the odd rabid animal.

That's a nice SG.  Looked it up on YT and you'd have thought it was full auto the way some of these folks pop the rounds off!

It is pretty fast. My best is 8 shots on a silhouette in 1.42 seconds. There are several newer guns that claim faster cycling, but this pretty much maxes out my finger.
