I think that border is in a crises mode. However, the wall may ultimately not work.

A few years ago, Boeing received a lot of money for a highly touted (by the recipient of the funds) virtual border.

We have three cheaper and discouraging options for border jumpers:
1. register the incoming people on visas. have them register upon leaving and give them a receipt upon leaving with an admonition to keep the receipt. If the person overstays the visa, go after them. Mark them as deported with they exit with a special notation. Make them ineligible to return without making a formal written application that is requires approved and a $500 sanction that will not be waived and must be paid with the application.
2. Require e-verify on all future employees. $500 non waiveable fine for each new employee hired who does not go through e-verify. Make the employer required to have a copy of the approved e-verify application at the workplace/corporate/business headquarters.
3. Actually stop the catch and release program. After one catch and release, the next illegal entry is a 30 day stay in a work camp with a permanent ban of people with positive tb reading or hepatitis reading. Third illegal entry and no qualification ever for entry into the US with a 60 day stay.

You don't have to make penalties draconian, simply enforce easy to understand penalties.

Great ideas, but why not chip, finger print, computer photo every one of them.  5 years to obtain citizenship or be hunted down and deported. Chips self-destruct if tampered with.

Yeah - and being all for equality and everything, they can chip all of us too.....

Pass.

I would just like to clarify that this discussion is from the point of view of people having a "Hypothetically, if we actually believed in the Constitution" perspective.

This is NOT the point of view of any of the members of congress, including your own, regardless of what they say or what you think. They could easily stop this - Repubs or Dems - if they wanted to. They have not because they do not want to.

Now - back to Fantasy Government league....
