The Pistol Caliber Carbine Thread
#61
I foresee the 2k coming my way just based on the cost of any .357 I've seen....

Pros and cons time:

A .357 carbine will have more power.  But that's relative and situational.  In a hunting situation the .357 carbine wins and is a nice match with a .357 revolver.   In a prep scenario however, a 9mm carbine holds more ammunition, in some cases a LOT more.  More easily reloaded.  Ammo is cheaper and more widely available locally.  Ammo is easier to carry since it's in a mag.  In the case of a 2K or Ruger PC9 it can be made smaller for easier storage or portability or grey man.  And it's likely to be paired with a CCW weapon you're carrying at the time.

That's a lot of pros for the 9mm in my opinion and why I chose it.
Governmental dependance makes for poor self reliance.

And that's probably the thing:

The .357 is a nice companion for a hunting carbine I have.

The Sub 2k (or whatever) is an all around good prep choice for my pistol caliber of choice. I have in 9mm, HK USP, Berretta 92, Browning HP, and a Glock 23 converted, and I have a bunch of mags for that including large 33rd one.

And that's your ideal prep combo right there;  Sub2k or PC9 and the converted G23 (using G17 and the fun stick for back up mags).  Both of my 2K's are Glock 17 versions but I understand there is a Glock 19 version for the shorter mags.  I like the length of the grip on the G17 version but if you get the opportunity to handle both see what works best for you.  The PC9 will take either and I'm pretty sure the G26 mags?  So that's a check mark for the PC9.  Still prefer the 2K for ultimate gray man/portability.
