Hammock by far! Gets you off wet, cold,bug/critter infested ground. There's nothing like swinging in the breeze.

I got 2. A Grand Trunk Ultralight and a full size hammock.

So far it's 1 for tent and 2 for the much better choice of hammock Big Grin

Actually I have a great tent, a Catoma EBNS that is fantastic (Bob got all of us hooked on it).  But I've developed an issue where I need to sleep at an angle and not flat so the last couple of times out I've been using my DIY hammock.  I made it myself from 10ft of ripstop nylon I purchased from Joann's.  Everything else is 550 paracord and carbiners from Lowes.  Whole thing cost me about $16.  So out of necessity I've been pimping out the ways I set up a hammock.

In addition to Daves video. I've thought of a method to stay warm in a hammock. If worse comes to worse you can start a fire and cover it with a small layer of dirt (there's a name for it but I can't think of it) hang your space blanket in an A-frame tent style around your hammock.

This should be a rather cozy method. However, I haven't tried it yet. Around November when it finally starts cooling off here I'm going to experiment and post the results.

If you remember Shane from our first SEP gathering he has something similar to that.  And though a bit bulky, it does work well.

In regards to making the hammock a bit warmer:

I've bought the roll he's talking about and it is very inexpensive, as is the rubber mat.  Haven't gotten a chance to try it out yet but I'm looking forward to it getting cold so I can.

Looking for more votes! Wink

I'm still using the hammock due to the way I need to sleep. Still have the Catoma EBNS but don't foresee it getting much use from me. Too bad as it's a nice tent. But overall, the hammock for me is the way to go. Just need to get a nice rain fly.
