Thinking of goals for 2018:
  • Lose 20 lbs
  • Develop a rain catch system that is easily stored and easily deployed
  • Help my wife get CPR/AED/First Aid trained(renewed)
  • Encourage 3 other people into prepping
  • Read at least one book on preppering/survival
  • Increase our emergency food supply stores by one week
  • Increase our emergency cash by 25%
  • Buy at lest 1 new gun (ok, I would do that anyway)
  • Read through the New Testament in an year (working on getting physically, mentally, and spiritually prepared if something would occur)
  • Try to locate 2 water sources within 5 miles of the house that I don't know about
  • Try to shot 1 IDPA match a month
I think this might be a good start

quick water storage.... water bladder in 30 to 300 galls, would work for rain if set up

Thanks for the idea about the water bladder.

I was thinking of 4-trash cans (can get them for less than $100 total) that would be easy to store in the garage and would only be used for water storage. They could be placed under the gutter spots like the old fashion rain barrels.

Living in the Midwest we get lots of rain and I have lots of water sources in the area. I just thought it would be nice to have one more choice if the need arises.

Got my wife's minivan squared away.  She doesn't drive anymore so I've been using it to go back and forth to work.  That way I can save the miles/warranty on my new car.  It doesn't get the mileage of course that my small SUV gets, but I think in the long run saving the miles on my car will pay off.  I have the extended warranty and I'd like to get as much out of that as possible.

Made it to Aldis today, I bought the normal two week supply of canned goods that the wife had on the list, then I tossed in an additional weeks worth. Picked up some canned ham to add to the stores. So working on increasing the food supplies by a week with the food we eat.

I've begun making the move towards narrowing down my defensive pistols.  Right now they are Glock and Ruger (as far as pistols).  In the last week I traded an HK and a Walther for a like-new Gen 4 Glock 22 with TFO Truglo night sights, S3F 9mm conversion barrel, 3x15 round mags, 22 round mag and G17 mag and also a like-new Gen 5 G19 with night sights and 3x15 round mags.

Still have the Ruger LC9 and LCP.  The LCP is gun type Glock really doesn't have a model to cover so that's a keeper.  Have no plans to trade the LC9 at this point as it is thin, light and comfortable.  If some great deal came up though...

  • Lose 20 lbs-still working on this
  • Develop a rain catch system that is easily stored and easily deployed-watching the sales ads, figure in a month the stuff I want to use will becoming on sale
  • Help my wife get CPR/AED/First Aid trained(renewed)-setup a first aid/CPR class at church, but unfortunately scheduled it for a day my wife is working
  • Encourage 3 other people into prepping-I have one person who is working hard on this now and he is taking to standardizing and preparing for his whole family; I have a second individual that has been talking to me about and asking a lot of questions.
  • Read at least one book on preppering/survival-nothing blowing up my skirt to read right now
  • Increase our emergency food supply stores by one week-we accomplished this; we also have started rotating some of the older canned items and replacing those
  • Increase our emergency cash by 25%-increased by about 10%, spent the rest on ammo that my wife wanted to buy
  • Buy at lest 1 new gun (ok, I would do that anyway)-trying to decide what to buy next
  • Read through the New Testament in an year (working on getting physically, mentally, and spiritually prepared if something would occur)-so far doing well and on schedule
  • Try to locate 2 water sources within 5 miles of the house that I don't know about-located two and more sources
  • Try to shot 1 IDPA match a month-shot a classifier on Saturday, so I'm off to a good start; weather permitting will be shooting a match this Saturday and one on the evening of the 8th.
